REVIEW:

Wow…just wow. I swear Pam Godwin’s novels get better and better with everyone I read! It took me several days to put my emotional thoughts into coherent sentences enough to write this review. I still don’t think I will be able to fully articulate how EXTRAORDINARLY CAPTIVATING this book (and series) was. I am in complete and utter book hangover mode, dare I say it’s the worst I have ever experienced, and that’s all thanks to Pam Godwin’s PHENOMENAL ability to completely crumble me to a mess of a woman and be completely attached to fictional characters. Going into this last and final novel in the Tangled Lies trilogy, I knew that my heart was GOING to bleed. There was GOING to be tears shed. And I was GOING to be left utterly spent. ALL those things happened and then some. I giggled, I smiled, I swooned, I cried, I hurt, I yearned, I loved, I mourned and I dreaded the ending with every fiber of my being. I NEEDED Danni to find her HEA, but at the expense of ripping out half her heart was daunting to say the least. Pam Godwin’s ability to thoroughly consume the reader with varying emotions is unprecedented. I can say I have NEVER felt this torn in two while reading a book. I begged in my mind that there be a way for Danni to end up with both men, but I knew that Pam wasn’t going to take the “easy” way out and because of that, there was no ending that would be a HEA for everyone involved…someone was going to “lose”. *tears*

“I need them with a yearning that can only end in more heartache.”

In THREE IS A WAR, all the lies and omissions were brought to light and there was no rock unturned, no emotion hidden. Danni, Cole and Trace put their hearts on the line and bared their souls in this book. Both men were “going to war” for this woman, but instead of there being bloodshed, they were rivaling on an emotional and intellectual level. They were strategically striving to prove who had the deeper connection with her to show to Danni WHY she should choose one over the other. And boy did they make that decision hard on her. “We’ve shared you, fought each other for you, broken laws to keep you. We’re both so eaten up I love with you there isn’t anything we won’t do.” –Trace. Danni was pulled both directions with each individual encounter. Each time she thought she knew who her heart was telling her to pick, it would turn with a glance shared, or a whispered touch, or a lingering kiss. Unfortunately, this isn’t the kind of decision she could make on a whim. She has to think with her heart. But the heart isn’t logical. Sometimes, we don’t know what we want until it’s gone. She’s trying to determine if she needs to go back to her “first love” (Cole) or give her “second chance at love” (Trace) a chance. Both men are amazing choices, but only one is the right choice. Her mom gave her the best advice in this book: “Relationships are hard work. Love is hard work. Whether you choose Cole or Trace, make sure you pick the one you’re willing to work the hardest for.” Now, Danni has to dig deep within herself to figure out WHO that someone is.

“I fell in love with two men and lost myself. I’ll stay in love with one and find myself again.”

This novel (and series) was not only about finding the one that makes your heart beat, but it was about finding yourself amongst all this love and turmoil. I do NOT envy the decision Danni had to make, but I applaud her for the strength in which she did so. Feeling like your heart is literally being torn in two, is excruciating to experience and yet a blessing…who is lucky enough to have not one but TWO men who love you unconditionally?

“Love happened twice, and I have no regrets, even if the situation feels impossible, even if the looming decision makes me believe I will never survive it. As much as I fear the future, it isn’t going away until it shows me what I need to do.”

I truly believe that this series will be forever in my top love-triangles read. The flawless writing style that Pam has is all-consuming and riveting. I felt as if once I got to the 50% mark, I was reading with one eye closed because I knew that I was getting close to the pinnacle of the whole series…the decision was coming and I wasn’t quite prepared for it. My heart crashed and broke into a million pieces several times by the end, and then it was mending back together, but with slight cracks that will never disappear. I will not say what side I am on (#TeamCole or #TeamTrace), but I will say that I am extremely happy with how this series ended and I’m overjoyed that Danni found the man whom makes her heart beat and picked a whom brings rhythm back into her life.

10 stars!

REVIEW:

Lana Kelly is living back in her hometown Worthington, Maine. Five years ago, betrayal by her now ex-boyfriend had her running back to the comfort and protection of the familiar. She left behind her best friend in New York along with all her hopes and dreams of aspiring to create handmade and hand designed jewelry for the rich and famous. Now being back in Maine, she owns her own jewelry store, but still has fear of opening herself up to the scrutiny of others. She has the reassurance of consistency and animosity from others in her life now. Until a stranger comes to town. She rents out the small cottage right next to hers and the new tenant is someone she should recognize, but with her isolated lifestyle over the past 5 years, she fails to realize that he is the up and coming Hollywood actor, Matt Easton. She’d promised herself that she’d never put herself in a compromising position again to avoid being hurt, but Matt is proving to be very difficult to resist and has her feeling under the inspection of others again.

Matt Easton is trying to rebuild his reputation and prove to the world that he is a reliable and accountable star. On the cusps of making it big, he has all the scrutiny of the publics and media’s eyes. After making some ill-advised decisions, he’s now trying to repair his career, so any kind of scandal would be the breaking point for his newly budding livelihood. During production of his latest film, he is staying in a quant town in Maine where he’s hoping no one will recognize him and he can stay out of watchful eyes of others. His agent has advised him to steer clear of any woman until after filming. He thought that Worthington, Maine would be the right solution, but his feisty and sexy new neighbor for the next six weeks proves it extra difficult to stay out of trouble. His physical attraction to her isn’t the only thing that draws him to her, the fact that she doesn’t appear to know who he is, is a major bonus and quite frankly, a huge turn on, for him. The fact that she wants him for HIM…Matt from Indiana, not, Matt Easton the rising star, makes her that much more tempting and alluring. But there’s a slight issue, Matt has a secret that could end this all before it starts. But he wants Lana fiercely and he knows that she wants him as well. He knows he needs to tell her the truth because he doesn’t want to lie to her. He wants her to know the REAL him, but will she still look at him the same way once she knows who he is?

Once Lana learns WHO Matt really is, she has to deal with the internal battle of wanting to continue her life in private and away from prying eyes and gossip. Can their life together translate out of Maine and into Hollywood or are they destined to be a “means to an end”? Can Lana risk the scrutiny from the world again and put herself out there for a chance at love or will it have her running again?

Hollywood actor and girl next door! Sign me up! I adored this story and characters from beginning to end! Matt and his flirtatious fun personality and Lana with her spirited, but yet reserved demeanor made for an entertaining read. Their story was unique and not like any other I’ve read. It was exactly what I hoped and expected from Louise’s novels and left me with a sappy smile on my face when I finished reading it. It had serious moments, comical moments, and steamy moments *wink*. Matt’s slightly dirty side in the bedroom was the perfect added ingredient in their relationship. He is all sweet and seductive in public and then he shows Lana the real him behind closed doors. They’re the perfect complement to each other’s personalities. Lana brings Matt back to his “roots” and Matt brings Lana out of her shell. All in all, I was pleased with the storyline and how they got their HEA. Louise Bay, yet again, wrote a beautiful story.

4.5 stars

Release Day – Oct 23

Standalone

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.

BLURB:
“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.

But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.

What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

***

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away

after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

BLURB:
Logan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??

Sexy. As. Hell.

And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.

For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, protective royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.

To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh

out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.

The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.

But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go.
***
Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.

Any woman would be proud to bring him home to her family.

But there’s only one woman he wants.

For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.

He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.

But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.

Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love.

EXCERPT CHAPTER 1
Prologue
Logan
Some men think with their cocks.
You know the type. Quick smooth-talkers, shifty eyes always scanning for a nice pair of legs, a set of full tits, or a tight arse they can pant after.
Other blokes think too much with their brains. You know that type too. Annoyingly careful, slow-moving, constantly parsing their words like they already know whatever they’re saying is going to come back and take a bite out of them.
            I’m not either of those.
I always go with my gut. When it clenches with a warning, I act—no hesitation. When it tugs and nudges, I pause and  reevaluate. When it twists and writhes, I know, guaranteed, I’ve cocked up big-time.
My gut is my best friend, my conscience, my most lethal asset.
And it has never let me down.
It’s my gut that drags me to her door. That roots me in place as I knock. That gives me the words—pleading, unfamiliar remorseful words—I’ll gladly say to make this right.
            To get her back.
Because while my gut is brilliant, sometimes I can be a real fucking idiot.
Yesterday was one of those times.
“Ellie. It’s me—open up, we need to talk.”
I sense movement on the other side of the solid oak door—not in sounds or shifting shadows beneath it, but more of an awareness. I can feel her in there. Nearby and listening.
            “Go away, Logan.”
Her voice is tight, higher-pitched than usual. Upset.
“Ellie, please. I was a twat, I know . . .” I’m not keen on begging from the hallway, but if that’s what it takes . . .  “I’m sorry. Let me in.”
Ellie is difficult to anger, quick to forgive; she just doesn’t have it in her to hold a grudge. So her next words fall like an axe—cutting my legs right off from under me.
“No, you were right. The princess’s sister and the East Amboy bodyguard don’t make sense—we’ll never last.”
Did I actually say that to her? What the fuck is wrong with me? What I feel for her is the one thing in my life that makes sense. That matters.
But I never told her that.
Instead . . . instead, I said all the wrong things.
I brace my palm against the smooth wood, leaning forward, wanting to be as near to her as possible. “Elle . . .”
            “I’ve changed my mind, Logan.”
If a corpse could speak, it would sound exactly like my Ellie does now. Flat, lifeless.
“I want the fairy tale. I want what Olivia has . . . castles and carriages . . . and you’ll never be able to give me that. I would just be settling for you. You’ll never be able to make me happy.”
She doesn’t mean that. They’re my words—the insecurities I put on her—that she’s hurling back in my face.
But God, it fucking hurts to hear. Physically hurts—stabbing deep into the pit of my stomach, crushing my chest, grinding my bones. I meant it when I said I would die for her . . . and right now, it feels like I am.
I grab the doorknob to walk inside, to see her face. To see that she doesn’t mean it.
            “Ellie—”
“Don’t come in!” she screeches like I’ve never heard her before. “I don’t want to see you! Go away, Logan. We’re done—just go!”
I breathe hard—that’s what you do when pain wrecks you, breathe through it. Then I swallow bile, straighten up, turn around and walk down the hall. Away from her. Just like she wants, like she asked. Like she screamed.
My brain tells me to move faster—get the hell out of there, cut my losses and lick my wounds. And my heart—Christ—that poor bastard’s too battered and bloody to say anything at all.
But then, just over halfway down the hall, my steps slow until I stop completely.
Because my gut . . . it strains through the hurt. Rebels. It shouts that this isn’t right. This isn’t her. Something’s off.
And even more than that . . . something is very, very wrong.
I glance up and down the quiet hall—not a guard or a maid in sight. I look back at the door. Closed and silent and still.
Then I turn and march straight back to it. I don’t knock, or wait, or ask for permission. In one move, I turn the knob and step inside.
What I see there stops me cold.
Because whatever I was expecting, it sure as fuck wasn’t this.
            Not at all . . .
