THE GUY ON THE LEFT by Kate Stewart is LIVE! This is a standalone contemporary romance packed with all the feels! One-click yours NOW!

Contemporary Romance/Romantic Dramedy
Stand Alone
Designer: Q Design

Blurb:
It started with a lie. A night of blurred lines between a teacher and a student.

I wasn’t her student, yet it was the single most defining night of my life.

I’ve never been the man she thinks I am.

Most people have no idea about the life I’ve lived or the words that ring true when it comes to me—still waters run deep.

But you’d be hard-pressed to find a coed on the TGU campus who knows otherwise…because I’ve never corrected them.

The clock is ticking down, it’s Fourth and Inches with the ball inside the one-yard line and the focus is on me, The Guy on the Left. I’ve never felt like a football god, inside I’m…just Troy.

It’s time to set the record straight.

For my son, I‘ll find the strength.

In her eyes, I’m determined to gain redemption.

I will have them both, even if I have to take my eye off the ball.

*The Guy on the Left is a stand alone novel in the Underdogs Series. This is Troy's story.

πŸ’œπŸˆπŸ’œπŸˆπŸ’œπŸˆπŸ’œπŸˆπŸ’œπŸˆπŸ’œπŸˆπŸ’œπŸˆπŸ’œπŸˆπŸ’œ
REVIEW:

Our story is messy, unconventional, we can be messy together, that makes us perfect.

I LOVED everything about this story and can easily say that this is my new favorite from this series!
An unique and emotional slow burn/second chance romance that will have you rooting for a HEA from the beginning. This was a type of story that had a near permanent smile plastered on my face, along with heart-wrenching moments that had my heart racing, tears springing to my eyes and at the same time took my breath away because of how much I was FEELING while reading some encounters/scenes.

I am becoming a sucker for a good underdog story and Kate sure knows how to write them! Since meeting Troy in book 1, THE GUY ON THE RIGHT, I did NOT expect him to be an underdog, like at all. But Kate proved me (and everyone else) wrong! I misjudged Troy before I knew him, much like the other characters in the series did, but I was quickly shown that he is very much like anyone else, he has his own insecurities and flaws that he's trying to overcome. He may have his appearance and football talent working in his favor, but that doesn't make him immune to LIFE and the insecurities and fears that come along with it. I adored everything about his character and enjoyed reading about him stepping up to be a dad. #swoon And then there's Clarissa...I tried to be upset with her for some of the decisions she made, but she ultimately made it impossible because she ALWAYS had one person in mind, her son, Dante (whom I LOVED!!!). I admired her protectiveness over their son and her resilience, her tenacity, and her strength to do ANYTHING for him and his happiness. She, too, had insecurities and fears that she had to overcome. The combination of their internal struggles and the fact that the foundation of their relationship was formed on a lie, lent to roadblocks in their relationship that they had to learn to navigate and overcome, together. They had to learn to trust each other above everything else and in order to do that, they had to let go of the past and allow each other forgiveness. Especially Clarissa, had to FORGIVE.

"F*cking worth it,"he murmurs. "Every fight, every struggle, the wait, the pain, the ache, loving you, needing you, wanting you, missing you --all of it-- worth it to get us to this point, right here."

This was a story about trust and respect. FORGIVENESS. Taking a risk because sometimes in the end, it is worth it, even if it is a painful and emotional journey to get there. Every trial is worth it! Relationships can be messy, but some times THAT mess is just how your story is meant to play out. "There's no story if you give up."

All I'm gonna say is, this series just keeps getting better and better and I can NOT wait for Lance and Harper's story!

5 stars

REVIEW:
What it just me? I worry that there was an unspoken message that I missed within this book that everyone else seemed to have read and is raving about. What did I miss??? After Bebe announced that the next book in her, "When Rivals Play" series was going to be Bee and Jamie's book, I was over the moon excited for this second chance romance that, to me, had enormous potential. There was revenge, secrets, pent up anger/hate, first loves...it all added up to equal an emotional and angsty book, but it just didn't pan out that way in my opinion. There was little to NO angst! I was anticipating a lot because all the early reviews were saying it had TONS, but again, did I miss something??? Maybe if I hadn't read EVERMORE (the accompanying novella), then I wouldn't of felt like I read some of this book already (EVERMORE overlaps with this book) and there would've been more "angsty" moments, but I mostly felt that the book consisted and was driven by a LOT of miscommunication and secrets between most of the characters. One secret was ruining the lives of several people and to me it was a simple fix....DON'T KEEP THE SECRET. #justsaying

I'm just gonna stop there in my review because I'm not trying to bash the book. The writing is good, it's just that the story didn't win ME over. Maybe it's my wishy washy attitude with second chance romances, maybe it's the story, maybe it's the characters, idk...all I know is THIS book didn't reach out and grab me by the figurative balls and keep me hooked throughout. There were times that I found the story unputadownable, but for the most part, I was easily pulled away from the story. Trust me, I WANTED to love it. I TRIED to let it consume me, but alas it just didn't happen and I'm totally bummed by that because I love this series! I will give Bebe credit for this, this book IS indeed unique. Now, with all that said, I am still very much excited for Vaughn and Tyra's story, especially with how Bebe left us hanging in regards to their relationship. And I am anxious to see how everything in the background of the story plays out and also the new plot twists that occurred at the end of the book.

REVIEW:
"Mal," I breathe. He slowly looks up. I see bad things have already slipped into his broken interior. "Have you ever been in love?"I ask.
A huge smile breaks on his face. It is true and big and real, and it can keep me burning forever. I know as long as I see this smile every day, I will never be cold. "Funny you should ask. Yes, yes, I have been. I still am. It started eight years ago, in the most unlikely event, and it has no expiration date."

Oh boy, how to rate this book. I know I am in the minority here and I know that there are people that loved this book, but I also know (after reading others reviews) that I had similar struggles with this book as others did. I want to start by saying I DID enjoy parts of this book. Even though I hate insta-love and typically avoid it, if possible, Leigh did make the insta-love work between these two characters. This book had that certain intrigue right out of the gate. Leigh brought in this mysterious element that had me continuing to read because I was curious to see what exactly that mystery was. EVERYONE in the book seemed to know what was going on BUT the reader and the heroine, Rory. Unfortunately, my enjoyment shifted to *insert Tom Hanks REALLY? gif* and *insert any EYE ROLLING gif* around 70%. That's where Leigh started to loose me, unfortunately. (If I'm being honest, my intrigue was up and down with this book). At around 70%, all the mystery was coming to light . The BIG reveal was finally happening! But it was reveal, after reveal, after reveal after reveal... Some of the reveals were OH MY GAWD *insert I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING gif* moments, I can admit that, so I can applaud Leigh for those moments, but on the same token, some of those reveals were, like I said above *insert any EYE ROLL gif*. I just didn't care for how everything was tied up at the end in a nice little bow. It seemed to me, there were some relationships that got mended, that to me, just wouldn't be possible. *insert WTF gif*. And then there was the fact that nearly everyone in this book was either a liar, a cheater, a drunk or a combination of all three. NO JOKE. And Malachy...I really wanted to love him, but man, he made it difficult! He had some good qualities, but more not so good qualities. And there was SO MANY lies, deceit and SO MUCH miscommunication in this book it about killed me! EVERYONE was lying to everyone about EVERYTHING! *insert RUBS FOREHEAD gif*

And then this book was told in MULTIPLE POV's. Like we get a POV from a napkin, a cow, a chocolate bar, dead people, a best friend, a mom, etc etc. I still don't know how I feel about all of those POV's. Yes, they added an interesting layer to the story and brought in MORE drama, but were they necessary? Some yes, some not at all. The chapters went back and forth from past to present, which worked in the beginning of the book, but made the book drag to me as the story went on. The past chapters just added more drama as the book went on.

"I loved you when you hated me, I loved you when I thought you were indifferent me, and I loved you when you were on the fence about me. But when I realized you loved me back? All bets were off. The world kept spinning. Days went by. Things changed--other than one thing, my love for you."

This book was SO promising, but unfortunately, it didn't gel with me. (You'll understand that reference if you read this book.) I really tried to love it. But it eventually got to the "point of no return" for me. *insert SAD gif* It might work for you, like it did others, so if you want to give it a try, go ahead. If you want a second chance, serendipity/kismet, insta-love type of story, then this one might be for you.

Perfectly Adequate, an all-new must-read romantic comedy from Jewel E. Ann, is available now!

Dr. Elijah Hawkins needs … something.
After his wife jumps headfirst into a midlife crisis, he’s left with his young son, Roman, and a lot of unanswered questions.

Dorothy studies humans, the neurotypical kind, through books and television. Then she emulates their behavioral patterns to fit in with her peers.

But nothing can prepare her for Dr. Elijah Hawkins.

Single dad.
Brilliant pediatric oncologist.
And the sexiest doctor at the hospital.

When his failed attempts at asking her out turn into a string of playdates with his son, Dorothy finds herself unexpectedly enamored with the boy and his father.

And that’s a problem, a huge one, because Elijah’s ex-wife is a famous plastic surgeon—and Dorothy’s idol.

Perfectly Adequate is a beautiful, hilarious, and heart-felt journey along the “human” spectrum.

REVIEW
Calling all rom-com fans! πŸ‘¨‍⚕️Hot doctor πŸ‘©πŸ»‍⚕️Quirky heroine πŸ‘¨‍πŸ‘¦ Single dad πŸ˜‚Romantic-comedy πŸ†πŸ…πŸ™Œ Texting shenanigans 🐢 Doggy style 🀭 (I saw Jewel post this and thought it was the perfect way to start my review) Now that I have your attention... This is probably one of those gems that readers will overlook strictly because of it's different cover. But let me tell you, Different is okay! Different is adequate! You will be okay with different. This is a DIFFERENT type of romance. And if you choose to overlook it, strictly because you are falling into that "judging a book by it's cover" category, then YOU WILL BE MISSING OUT. I'll be honest, at first glimpse of this cover, I wasn't the BIGGEST fan, but knowing how I feel about ALL of Jewel's books (that I've read) and after reading THIS book, it is PERFECTLY ADEQUATE πŸ˜‰πŸ‘ This is a story that will catch you by complete surprise. At least that's how I felt. Even after reading the synopsis, I had ZERO idea where this story was going to go and the depths to which this story would hit me (which is the case with basically every book I've read by Jewel). I have NEVER, in all my years (and all the books I've read), laughed so much and so often at the downright ridiculously laughable moments within this book. 🀣 Moments that had me shaking my head thinking, "that did not just happen?" and/or "she did not just do (or say) that???"And those scenes and moments WORKED in this story and with these characters. They were utterly outrageous, but SO plausible within this story. πŸ™‹‍♀️ "...Clearly you don't know how my brain works. But...you'll find out."I climb to my feet. Eli grabs my hand and kisses then inside of my wrist. "Clearly, you don't know how my love works. But...you'll find out." 😍😚 I LOVE JEWEL'S STORIES!!! She has a way of painting such a vivid picture when she tells a story. The way in which she articulates the point that she is trying to get across is astounding. She makes every character so individual, but yet relatable to the reader. Even the "villain" of the story, I found myself sympathizing with. How is that possible? Jewel. That's how! There were MANY times within this book that I would stop reading and think, "Wow! Just wow. That was written beautifully!" (I even read some scenes outloud to my hubby, which I RARELY do.) I loved the deeper subject matter that Jewel's centered this story around. It made for one unique set of characters. I've NEVER read a book quite like this. It was realistic and probably took quite a bit of research, time, and effort to achieve the point and meaning she was getting across throughout this book. This story was truly like no other romance I've read. Eli and Dorothy were like no couple I've ever read. Dorothy was like no other character I've ever read. I know I'm not adequately expressing myself in this review, but to me, PERFECTLY ADEQUATE was the PERFECT romcom. It had hilariously awkward moments, smile inducing moments, swoon-worthy moments (Eli was PERFECT), sad moments, and heart-warming moments. This is one of those books that can't be properly described, you just have to experience it for yourself. Whether this is your first or tenth book by Jewel, you will love it.πŸ’™ "For the record..." I grab workout clothes from the closet "...loving you has been unexpectedly good." "Good?"he chuckles. "Perfectly adequate." 5 "lifetime" stars

EXCERPT

“You can call me Eli.”
She swallows hard. “I don’t actually think I can.”
“Why not?” I force my gaze away from her mouth.
The second our eyes meet, she averts her attention to her feet. “Because you’re half of the Hathaway-Hawkins duo.”
This is a new one to me. “I’m divorced.”
“I know. I …” She makes an attempt to look at me, but her attention shifts to my temple then maybe my ear. “I mean you’re a brilliant doctor, and Dr. Hathaway is too—so brilliant. God, she’s just phenomenal. Like there are no words. But still … you change the lives of young children. You save them. You’re what every young person entering the medical field can only dream of becoming. You’ve earned the title. I can’t call you by your name. It’s too personal. I don’t know … almost intimate.”
She has Julie on a really high pedestal. Me? Down a few pegs. Sounds about right for my life at the moment. It’s not that Julie doesn’t deserve to be on the pedestal. No matter how much I hate her, I still love her. And her skills as a pediatric plastic surgeon are unmatched. She deserves Dorothy’s admiration.
But I don’t want to talk about medicine, accolades, and saving lives. I know … I know … how terrible of me. Sorry, but I need something for myself. Something personal and maybe a little selfish.
Definitely intimate.
“I don’t need a babysitter for Roman.”
She jerks her head back, giving me her full attention, eyes squinted, gaze locked to mine. “What?”
I trap my top lip between my teeth, drowning in coconuts as my heart races, sending ample blood to all regions of my body. God … I just want—need—to kiss her.
“Oh jeez …” She shakes her head, closing her eyes for a breath. “You invited me to dinner to … flirt.” Her eyes open to their widest point.
A tiny laugh escapes me. I can’t help it. Everything about this woman feels like a rebirth. “I invited you to dinner because Roman really likes you. And I just can’t thank you enough for all that you’ve done for him. You’re so generous.”
Gah! I suck at this!
What is my problem? Yes. The answer is yes! Yes, Dorothy, I invited you over to flirt, maybe even kiss. And other things …
“Oh.” She takes a step backward, stumbling a bit as the front door catches her, and more embarrassment tints her cheeks. “Well, now I feel stupid. Yes, of course you invited me here because Roman likes me. Duh. Now I just look like an idiot for assuming you wanted to flirt with me. And really, no need to thank me. My generosity is selfish. It makes me feel good to do nice things. That’s all. And really, you’ve bought me coffee and made me dinner again. It’s like I should be thanking you again. But that’s probably weird. So … I’ll just go now.”
Really, really weird shit goes through my mind as she fidgets. Dr. Hawkins is nowhere to be found. Neither is Roman’s dad. Raging-puberty-hormones Eli Hawkins invades my head—both of them really. And I just want to kiss Dorothy. That’s the PG version of my thoughts. Most of them are R-rated. Worse than the R-rating. All I can think about are the ways Dorothy and I can be generous with each other, leading to never-ending thank-you’s that don't involve stationary, replacement scrubs, superhero capes, pasta dinners, lunch boxes … or clothing.
“Should we call it even? No more thank-you’s,” I suggest.
“Okay.” She lifts her gaze, eyes going a little cross-eyed like her focus is centered on the bridge of my nose.
“Okay.” I release a slow breath, but it does very little to relax all of my body. “Can I ask your age?” I’m not sure why I’ve been so chicken about asking her age. I think it worries me that she’s too young, and I’ll feel like a dirty old man having really inappropriate thoughts about her.
“I’m thirty. Why?”
“You just look young.”
“I wear massive amounts of sunscreen.”
I nod slowly.
Just kiss her, you big chicken!
What if she doesn’t want to be kissed by me? Or flirt with me? I internally laugh at the memory of her comment and at myself for being just as awkward. Why does something so simple have to be so complicated?
“I have a forty-five-minute drive home.”
And school the next day. Where is my head?
Oh, that’s right …
“Of course. I’m sorry. I lost track of time.”
“Okay.” She smiles.
I love her okay’s. They feel like more than the average okay.
“I’ll walk you out.”
“Have you not closed all of your rings?” She holds up her wrist, signaling to her watch.
I chuckle. “All rings were closed hours ago.”
“We could track each other. Share our rings. Did you know that?”
Rings. Kisses. Trips to the on-call room for sex.
For the love of God … get your shit together, Elijah!
“Never mind. That’s weird.” She shakes her head, rolling her eyes at herself just before opening the door and scurrying ten steps ahead of me. Her pace gains momentum with the hill of my driveway.
My long strides catch up to her at the bottom of it. She looks both ways and bolts across the street to her car, clicks the locks, and opens her door.
“Goodnight!”
“Dorothy Mayhem … you’re killing me.”
She turns just before ducking into the driver’s seat.
“What do you mean?”
Resting my hands on my hips, I drop my chin in defeat and stare at my untied gray canvas shoes. “What if I did ask you to dinner tonight to … flirt?” I glance up, digging my teeth into my bottom lip on a slight cringe.
Her body remains stoic as her eyes shift from side to side, like she’s been caught on a hidden camera. “Well … then I wore the wrong outfit.” She refuses to look me in the eye.
“I think you look amazing.”
“Yes. But this is a playdate outfit. Maybe even one I’d wear to apply for a babysitter position. It’s fun, but wholesome. Practical and safe.”
I just want to spend one day in her head. Everything about her fascinates the hell out of me. The curiosity gives me such a high.
“Tell me about your flirting outfit.”
“Well …” She clears her throat, keeping her focus on the big hill leading out of my development. And of course … her cheeks are perfectly flushed as she talks to the wind. “Since Romeo was involved, I would have chosen my red dress with white stripes. It hits just below my knees, but it’s strapless. And I would have worn my blue cardigan with it and matching blue wedge sandals with straps that tie around my ankles. Flirty … but appropriate for young eyes.”
“And if Roman wouldn’t have been here tonight?”  I stare at the side of her head, wondering if she’ll look at me again before driving home.
She narrows her eyes. “I would have taken off the cardigan after you invited me into your house.”
The picture she paints in my head does all kinds of wicked things to me. Why imagining her in a striped strapless dress has such a physical effect on me is a mystery. It’s not like she suggested showing up wearing nothing but high heels and a trench coat. Dorothy Mayhem possesses her own brand of seduction, and I’m completely entangled in every part of it.
“And in this scenario, would you have kissed me after I walked you to your car?”
She turns completely red. I feel certain even her toes hidden in those blue shoes have to be red. “You’re making fun of me.”
Her comment knocks me back a good ten steps, even if my body remains right next to her. Why would she say that?

After her best friend of nearly 30 years suggested a few books from the Contemporary Romance genre, Jewel was hooked. Devouring two and three books a week but still craving more, she decided to practice sustainable reading, AKA writing.

When she’s not donning her cape and saving the planet one tree at a time, she enjoys yoga with friends, good food with family, rock climbing with her kids, watching How I Met Your Mother reruns, and of course…heart-wrenching, tear-jerking, panty-scorching novels.
