Release Blitz: WHAT HE NEVER KNEW by Kandi Steiner

WHAT HE NEVER KNEW, a standalone teacher/student romance in the What He Doesn't Know series by bestselling author Kandi Steiner is live!

I never learn my lesson.

And I always want what I can’t have.

When Sarah Henderson walks into my life, I tell myself she’s off limits. She’s my student, sixteen years younger than me, and my boss’s niece. It doesn’t matter that I see the same pain reflected in her eyes that I have in my own, or that the dead organ better known as my heart kicks to life when she’s around.

I’ve been here before, and I know how this ends.

It’s been two years since I fell for the last woman I knew I couldn’t have, the one with the ring on her finger that I chose to ignore.

Two years of trying to overcome that heartache when Sarah slides into my life.

Another woman I can’t have. Another woman I can’t stop myself from wanting.

I never learn my lesson, but with a constant reminder of how that last forbidden love burned, I think I’ve finally learned this one.

This time, I won’t chase what’s off limits.

This time, I’m staying away.

And I’ll keep telling myself that until I believe it.

REVIEW:

I have waited what feels like FOREVER to have this characters HEA and to FINALLY get it, feels like coming home. HAPPY DANCE I NEEDED to know how he was going to get his HEA after having his (and my) heart ripped out in book 2, WHAT HE ALWAYS KNEW.

"I knew he saw the same pain in me that I saw in him. And maybe that was the only reason we saw it at all -- because we lived it. You had to understand what that felt like to be able to recognize it, like there was an exclusive club for the eternally heartbroken." -Sarah

This story was fussed with raw emotions. Visceral pain. Pain that I could feel while reading. Both these characters have been through SO MUCH heartache in their lives that they are both left feeling unworthy of love and damaged beyond repair. And if you've read books 1 and 2 in this series, you KNOW what type of pain HE'S been through. *tears* But through their mutual love of piano, they find hope, love, and healing. They were creating a song of their own, one that showed their ups and downs both in their personal situations and in their relationship together. Kandi Steiner does a beautiful job of telling a story about two characters that have to face their flaws and learn to live with them. Those flaws are a part of them and are very much still lovable.

"You make me feel worthy again, like I'm not damaged, like I'm cherished and revered and cared for." -Sarah.

It was like music to my soul to have this characters HEA. I am SO HAPPY that Kandi took the time to write HIS story. HE needed a HEA and he found that through Sarah. I do not want to give names in my review for fear that you (the person looking at my review) will get a spoiler because this is book THREE in the series and the series starts out as a love TRIANGLE...so inevitably one person is left heartbroken. BUT, as you can guess, the one that is left heartbroken, has his heart put back together in THIS book! So if you've read the first two books in this series, you WILL want to read this book.

My only "hang up" with this book was at times the pace was a bit slow for me, but this type of story needed slow, so the characters could build up to their crescendo of a relationship. But in comparison to the rest of the book, this minor "hang up" didn't ruin the story for me, I was still pulled in by Kandi's writing and the slow candance helped create a beautiful love story nonetheless.

"She was the light I never thought I'd see again, the purpose I thought I'd lost forever."

So if you're in the mood for a student/teacher/large age gap story, give this book a go!

4 stars

About Kandi:

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.
An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a diehard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.
When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

HAPPY RELEASE WEEK PENELOPE DOUGLAS!!!

"I've done far worse than what I went to prison for.

She has no idea how bad this can get."

KILL SWITCH, an all-new standalone dark romantic suspense by Penelope Douglas is live!

❤💗❤💗❤💗❤💗❤💗❤💗❤💗❤💗❤

WINTER

Sending him to prison was the worst thing I could’ve done. It didn’t matter that he did the crime or that I wished he was dead. Perhaps I thought I’d have time to disappear before he got out or he’d cool off in jail and be anything but the horror he was.

But I was wrong. Three years came and went too fast, and now he’s anything but calm. Prison only gave him time to plan.

And while I anticipated his vengeance, I didn’t expect this.

He doesn’t want to make me hurt. He wants to make everything hurt.

DAMON

First thing’s first. Get rid of her daddy. He told them I forced her. He told them his little girl was a victim, but I was a kid, too, and she wanted it just as much as I did.

Step two… Give her, her sister, and her mother nowhere to run and no fuel to escape. The Ashby women are alone now and desperate for a knight in shining armor.

But that’s not what’s coming.

No, it’s time I listened to my father and took control of my future. It’s time I showed them all—my family, her family, my friends—that I will never change and that I have no other ambition than to be the nightmare of their lives.

Starting with her.

She’ll be so scared, she won’t even be safe in her own head by the time I’m done with her. And the best part is I won’t have to break into her home to do it.

As the new man of the house I have all the keys.

KILL SWITCH is suitable for readers 18+. While it can be read as a stand-alone, all of the characters are developed throughout the series. The first two books, CORRUPT and HIDEAWAY, are now available through Kindle Unlimited!

REVIEW:

The wait it over! DAMON IS HERE! And he was worth every painstaking moment of that wait!

And this book is yet another reason I come back to Pen's stories time and time again! For me, it's safe to say that THIS BOOK, THIS STORY, THESE CHARACTERS are her best work yet! Of course it wouldn't be as outstanding as it is, without the help of the first two books (CORRUPT and HIDEAWAY) in this series to build up to this part in the series. You cannot have one book without the other and you can not have the other characters stories without leading to this one.

Truly, Pen has blown my mind with how she's woven this saga together. The way it is all blending together is flawless! Her execution of this entire DEVIL'S NIGHT story and its characters, is EXTRAORDINARY and has left my jaw on the floor with the plot twists that I did NOT see coming. After finishing book 2, HIDEAWAY over a year ago, I was left with many questions and high hopes as to where this next installment (Damon's book) was going to take us readers, and Pen did not disappoint. In KILL SWITCH, there's more layers uncovered, but yet more depth built into the story line to keep the reader invested and intrigued with the next part to the story. Much of KS overlaps in it's timeline with book 1, CORRUPT, but we are getting it from Damon and Winter's POV, whereas with CORRUPT, we got it from Rika and Micheal's POV. And let me state, this is NOT a retelling of CORRUPT...AT ALL...this is very much Damon and Winter's story, but there are events from CORRUPT that come into play in this book as well. Scenes from CORRUPT that had you wondering what was happening, but you didn't know because it was Damon's character that those things were happening to and neither Micheal nor Rika were privy to those scenes.

I can imagine it takes a LOT of discipline, energy, and note taking in order to get these timelines to work out the way they do without messing something up and I can say that Pen is weaving this saga together brilliantly!

I can not give details about the plot because I don't feel like I would be able to sum up the story and do it justice without spoiling anything for you. Just promise me you will go into this book blind and trust that Pen will bring all the breath-taking mind games, the unforgettable steamy moments *wink*, and a unique story line that will leave you begging for more when all is said and done.

Now, the wait for NIGHTFALL (Devil's Night #4), Will's story...
Him forever. I wanted to hold this place where we could hide in our dark places and feel everything we didn't always understand. Fantastical fear and falling. Danger, fury, heat, and need.So strong you're a f*cking animal. Black and red.

Synopsis

"Girls like you aren't exactly welcomed at a place like this, so keep your head down and look the other way."

Those were the exact words of my social worker when she dropped me in my newest hellhole, a place for "troubled teens".

I didn't listen, and now I'm on their radar.

They expect me to play along in their games of hierarchy, to fall in line in the social order they've deemed me fit.

Too bad for them, I don't follow rules.
Too bad for me, they're determined to make sure I do.

Inconceivably attractive and treated like kings...these are the boys of Brayshaw High.

And I'm the girl who got in their way.

See Chapter one here

REVIEW

"Family runs deeper than blood."
In this first installment of "Brayshaw" series, that quote couldn't be more fitting.
Maddoc, Royce and Captain are brothers by choice and loyal no matter what. They protect what is there's and demand respect and loyalty from others.
Raven Carver carves her own path in life. She's fiercely independent. Refuses to bend to anyone. She protects and only depends on herself. These are resources her life demands, her only means of survival. Then she joins Brayshaw High and tests the finely constructed hierarchy there and in doing so, attracts the attention of the three boys in charge. These boys demand her respect and loyalty and expect her to step into line with all the others who follow them. They attempt to command her every move, but of course she "bucks the system" and refuses to wield. So that of course piques their interest...her "don't give a f*ck who you are" attitude makes her a new kind of target. "This is their world, and it seems I'm in the middle of it." She challenges them at every turn, but ultimately ends up showing them something what they're missing in their power group and she also finds something she's missing in life as well. "Someone for Captain to care for, someone for Royce to worry about, someone for Maddoc to protect." They unknowingly find a family within each other. But Raven continues to have walls up guarding herself, so that she doesn't get too close. She wants zero attachments, so that she can walk away one day. She refuses to give in completely because she knows eventually this will all end. And the guys don't know if they can truly trust her, so they too have reservations. But can they trust each other in the end?

I feel like BoBH was a good foundation book for this series, it definitely set up the rest of the series. I am MOST DEFINITELY interested in Royce and Captian's stories (which I'm presuming we'll get because Meagan was laying down major hints for Cap's book. happy dance). And I LOVED Royce's character, he was the humorous element that I would've been missing if he wasn't in this book. There was plenty of high school type drama (which I am all about) and angst (BIG PLUS, LOVE me some angst) that kept me reading. The mystery in the background also kept me coming back for more.

I will say I struggled with the pace at times. The first 50% seemed to move at a snail's pace for me and seemed a bit drug out, with some repetitiveness. Because of this, some of the story execution was lacking at times. I think some of it maybe could've been cut and the story would've had more of an impact earlier on for me. And then Raven's character at times was hard for me to read. Idk if it was just me and my lack of "ghetto talk", but I found myself confused at times with Raven's dialogue (verbal and inner). I found myself re-reading parts to try to better understand what she was saying/meaning, which became frustrating at times. But I stuck it out because like I said, the seed of intrigue was planted and I wanted to know more about these characters and how they ended up where they were in life and I was curious to see what other drama/plot twists would arise.

With all that being said, I did push through and I really enjoyed the last 50% of this book. It seemed like the pieces were falling into place to build a great plot. I look forward to seeing how book 2 plays out. I'm also really anxious to see if we get books for Royce and Captain or if book 2 will continue on with Maddoc's and Raven's story...I guess we'll find out.

3 stars

Excerpt

“You’re Raven Carver, aren’t you?”
I face forward with a frown.
“Sorry, but Maybell told me you were coming today. I didn’t think you’d be at school already, but usually the only new kids who come are people from the home.”
“Yeah, well, I wasn’t exactly given an option so, here I am.”
“Are you gonna run?”
I laugh lightly, shifting my eyes to hers. “Nah. I’ve got nowhere to be. Now I’m stuck in the system ‘til I’m eighteen anyway, so fuck it. May as well cruise through.”
“Those guys back there, you need to be careful. They’re… not like most high schoolers. People around here listen to them, follow their every move.”
So those are the guys the chick was referring to this morning.
“What you did today? They won’t allow that without getting you back. They can’t.” She shakes her head.
“I keyed his Denali.” I shrug. “Big fucking deal.”
The girl stops, her eyes widening. “Yeah, you got that part right. It is a ‘big fucking deal.’ If they let some nobody, new girl like you – no offense – openly disrespect them like that, it’ll threaten their entire system.”
“System.”
“Yeah. System. They’re a big deal around here, and not just at the school. You either kneel at their feet or get stomped under them. They’ll make sure you’re shamed, one way or another.”
We make our way up the dirt driveway. “He disrespected me first. If there’s one thing I know about guys, it’s if you let them walk all over you, they’ll take pleasure in doing it.”
The girl steps ahead, pulling open the screen door as she looks back at me. “If there’s one thing I know about the boys of Brayshaw, it’s that they’ll destroy anything that threatens to mess up their vision. Watch out, Raven. Your little stunt today may have gotten the guys you’re used to off your back, but for these guys? All you did was paint the mark brighter.”
I raise a black brow and she scowls at me.
“A target from them means a target from all their followers,” she spits.
Right. “Let me guess… you’re a follower?”
This time it’s her who pops an eyebrow. “Welcome to Brayshaw High.”
