BLURB:
I’d only wanted one kiss.
One kiss, under the dark of night, in a city where no one knew us.
One kiss fueled by my hormones and alcohol and the blinding grief over losing my mother.
One kiss from the man I told myself was untouchable.
But, it didn’t stop at one kiss.
And now we are running full speed down a road with no intention of stopping.
His touch disarms me.
His kiss revives me.
But, our love, could destroy me.
*This is a taboo novel and is intended for mature audiences only.
REVIEW:
I tried to step out of my norm and try something I typically
do not read and as a bonus, try out a “new to me” author at the same time, but
unfortunately, this was a flop for me. I did not connect with this story nor its
characters on any level. I wavered on my feelings towards this story. At times,
I would find myself being lost in their story, but then something would happen
that would make me cringe. This was a stepfather/step daughter romance, which when
I first stumbled upon it, it sounded like a good change of pace to the whole step
brother trend that is out there, but unfortunately, I was mostly just disturbed
by the age difference (he is 41 and she’s 18) and the times she referred to him
as “daddy”. Maybe if he would not have been her father figure for 7+ years of
her life (age 10-17), I could have overlooked it. Maybe if she would have been
in her 20s and he would have been in his 30, I could have enjoyed the taboo
aspect. Maybe maybe maybe…the list could go on, but plain and simple, THIS
story did not work for me and that bummed me out because I was really looking
forward to it.
On top of those struggles I had, I felt like the story didn’t
flow well and it had some plot holes and twists that just didn’t quite gel and make
sense in context to the story IMO. And then to top it off, the book ended in a
rushed manner and with a neat little bow. There was VERY LITTLE struggle in regards
to their loved ones accepting their relationship. Realistically, there would
have been more obstacles that came up in their lives that they would have
needed to deal with in order to be together. In the end, for me, the best part
of the story was the sex scenes. They were most definitely steamy and those
moments are the only moments I felt a true connection between the two main
characters. I think I just needed MORE development. The concept was great, but
the execution wasn’t 100% IMO.
