Release Blitz & Review: FOR LUCY by Jewel E Ann

HAPPY RELEASE WEEK Jewel E Ann!!!

For Lucy by Jewel E. Ann is now live!

From USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Jewel E. Ann comes a novel so heartfelt and real it redefines the meaning of love.

I'm the wrong guy in the right place the night I steal Tatum Bradshaw from another man. When she mistakes me for her blind date, I decide she deserves a man who shows up on time ... like me. Emmett Riley, Mr. Punctual.

Once I confess my true identity and convince her I'm not a creep--just a thief--it's only a matter of time before my sexy smile and quick wit claim her heart, her hand in marriage, and the perfect life.

Unfortunately, perfection is an illusion, like the promises of our wedding vows. No one can prepare for the unimaginable--the heartbreaking exception to all the rules in life.

When thirty seconds destroys everything, I have to find a new existence and keep my promise to always love our daughter, Lucy, the most.

For Lucy, I will keep a secret, and I will watch my wife drift into the arms of another man.

Given the chance ... can I reclaim my wife and the pieces of our life?

REVIEW
"There is nothing absolute about our lives. Who we are lies in the space between always and never." FOR LUCY was an unputdownable story. I read it in one day! Jewel excels at bringing all the feels with her stories and she does just that with FOR LUCY. Just read the blurb and you'll be able to anticipate the emotions that will come with this type of story, but nothing could truly prepare you for the emotional submersion that is in store. 99% of the book is told mostly from Emmett's (the male) POV, which was refreshing and different, we get a story about a marriage that goes through the unimageable. Something that will test the bond that seemed unbreakable. A love that seemed unconditional. I. FELT. THIS. BOOK. IN. MY. CORE. I don't even know where to begin with my emotions after reading this story. I feel like the my heart and mind was on a constant rollercoaster the entire time I was reading. Not once did I have a reprieve from it. Just be warned, if you read this book, have tissues close by. “Timing, accidental or not, is everything. Seconds matter.” Two things I would've liked more of while reading...I wish I would've gotten Tatum's POV some. There were several instances where I found myself VERY frustrated with her and her decisions, which made it difficult at times to relate to her. In the end, all of her decisions and emotions made sense, once everything was clarified, but I wish I could've gotten those explanations sooner or throughout the story in some small way. Secondly, I wanted MORE of their HEA. It all happened so fast at the end. Too fast for me. Especially after spending 75+% of the book with them not really being together. Other than these two personal things, I LOVED this book. Every book I read from Jewel I have been able to wholeheartedly recommend and I definitely can recommend this book. If you're looking for a second chance romance that will pack an emotional punch, with a heavy dose of heartache and an even bigger dose of an unbreakable love, then THIS is the story for you. 4 I've always been yours stars

Release Blitz & Review: THE ISLE OF SIN AND SHADOWS by Keri Lake

THE ISLE OF SIN & SHADOWS

Keri Lake

Release Date: March 1

In the Louisiana swamplands, ghost stories are as much a part of childhood as chasing fireflies and crawfishing. They never much scared me, though, nor the possibility of evil out to do me harm. Until the night I watched shadows come to life and butcher everything I loved.

With a stranger's help, I managed to escape to an isolated place miles north, and, in time, became my own ghost story. A cautionary tale for the locals.

Nearly a decade passed, before I returned to my birthplace, in hopes of unearthing long-awaited answers. Instead, I found something I wasn't looking for. Someone. A remedy for my loneliness.

Or so I thought.

Turns out, Thierry Bergeron is no elixir. He's a deadly poison, cursed by the demons of his past, and feared by those who call him the elusive Rougarou of the bayou. A devious rogue, whose seductive whispers and rough hands haunt my dreams. The big bad wolf that defiles me without apology, or remorse.

I should resist him, but I can't.

And when the shadows return to stake their claim on me, his darkness is the only safe place to hide.

REVIEW:

Keri Lake has cast some voodoo witch crafty sh*t on me with this story and I LOVED every minute of it!

"This island alone boasts more ghost stories than all of Louisiana combined. And I’m one of them."

WOW just...W O W. Words won't be enough to express my level of love for Thierry and Celeste's story. The level of detail, plot execution, and character development that Keri did was astounding. It was very obvious that she put a lot time and effort into creating this fictional world and characters. But that comes as no surprise. When it comes to Keri's writing, she excels at developing a book world. She can write anything she puts her mind to and she can write it well. She immerses the reading within the world that she creates. She breathes life into her words and gives her stories their own heartbeat. This story truly came alive while I was reading it! I could feel the history, the culture, the mystery, the fear, the relationships, the plot...everything was meticulously written and utterly addictive! She had my mind stretching with so many thoughts and questions with each chapter read. With her stories, it is always more than just another romance story, you get a multi-layered world with TONS of dimension. There's so much depth in her stories! And this dark gothic romance had SO MUCH depth! On top of this completely fictional world, Keri gives us an utterly painful and delicious slow burn. Oh but the burn is so worth it because once it's triggered, there's no holding it back! * fans self* Thierry and Celeste are everything together! I loved them!

"This unbearable ache inside of me has a name: Thierry Bergeron. He’s what I desire more than anything. The exquisite poison that’s sure to destroy my heart this time."

What I love about Keri's stories, aside from their extraordinary journey I know I'll go on, is I can NEVER predict what to expect or what direction she'll take me in. I'm always left on the edge of my seat wondering, filled with nervous energy and craving more of her words every time I have to set my kindle down. THE ISLE OF SIN AND SHADOWS had me doing just that. I was utterly addicted. This is definitely a story I will not soon forget! If you're in the mood for something completely different, something dark and eerie, something with supernatural vibes, something with superstitions and a cult plot, something that will have you checking under your bed before you go to sleep at night, then THIS is the story for you! And if this is your first time coming across Keri Lake, definitely give her writing a try. THE ISLE OF SIN AND SHADOWS show cases all that she can do as an author and then some.

Because ghost stories aren't meant to have happy endings. But mine did.

je suis fou de toi (I'm crazy about you) stars!

REVIEW:

Nikki Sloane designed this novel to hit all the steamy buttons! It was SOOOOO hot I thought that my kindle would combust at times. *fans self* I can't properly explain the level of erotic steaminess that was packed into this novel. Two Dom's and one submissive..WHOA. It was heavy on BDSM and D/s relationships and was MfM. Clay, Lilith and Travis were the perfect balance to make this type of relationship work. One did not work without the other and Nikki did a phenomenal job of developing their personalities to reflect that. The plot and flow of the story was paced perfectly and the character development was unique, complex and believable.

I have to say this book caught me by complete surprise. And I mean that in a GOOD way. I have not read the first two books in this series, but I definitely will now! If you're in the mood for an unconventional throuple relationship, then THIS is the story for you!

R E V I E W

"Don't let anyone else write your story."

As a woman. As a wife. As a mother of 3 beautiful children. As a person that gives her all and sacrifices her own happiness at times for my loved ones. As a raised Christian. I felt this book in my soul. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED was just that, not what I expected. Which if you're a returning reader of Jewel's, you know for a fact, that she is the Queen of unexpected. This book is unlike ANYTHING I've read before. It is SO MUCH more than a romance. It's an experience, one that I recommend you try. This story won't be for everyone, but I feel it could be for every married human being. Every woman that's been in a long term relationship. Even men. This book could have very easily been told from a male's POV. Has there ever been something about your significant other, that over time, drives you nuts? The way he scrapes his teeth on his fork when he eats. The way he leaves his clothes on the floor RIGHT BY the hamper. The way he never finishes a project. The way he doesn't go out of his way to woo you. The way he....the list could go on and on. It could very well be the silliest things that irritate you over time and then one day you just SNAP, all those little things have built up over YEARS and you can't deal with it anymore. You realize the man you look at, isn't the man you fell in love with. Not because they're a bad human being. Not because you never loved them. It's just that, at some point over the years, you've fallen out of love with him because of all those little things that piled up and eventually outweighed the things you loved about him. "After twenty-two years, three months, and six days of marriage … I couldn’t do it anymore."-Elsie.

This book is about falling out of love. After 22 years of marriage, 4 children and LIFE later...you don't recognize who you are. Who THEY are. You've changed. They've changed. You've grown apart. It's not about finding something or someone better. You don't regret a moment of your life up to this point, but things have changed within you. You're not the same person you were at the beginning of your relationship. You don't have the same wants or needs. You want out to discover yourself again. This book was about moments. Living in the moment. Living life a day at a time. Letting go of the guilt. Not living your life with regrets. "Let me introduce you to a little monster called regret. The last thing it wants is for you to be happy. If you let it, it will ravage your soul. There's always more to be said, one last kiss, one last hug. Don't go to bed angry. Don't walk out the door with anything unsettled. Don't f*cking blink. Don't be human. If you live life in fear, it's not a real life. Fear will cripple your joy. Regret will cripple your happiness. Let. It. Go." -Amie, Elsie's best friend. This book is also about finding love. Love for yourself and love for another. Elsie's life had many unexpected turns, but all those turns led her to her new happiness and a new love.
“I’m ageless around you. Stupid. Immature. And . . . free.” -Elsie.
I can't fully express how much I adored this book. Elsie and Kael were so real. I loved their unexpected love story. I loved their individual personalities and how Jewel wrote them. I found WHAT NOT TO EXPECT funny, refreshing and relatable. I saw a lot of myself in her. Her thoughts and feelings mirrored a lot of my own in my life and marriage (not enough to push me to divorce, but enough to understand where she's coming from). I felt the message that Jewel was trying to convey in this story. I truly think Jewel is the ONLY author that could give me the depth. The rawness. The realness. That I needed for THIS type of story. This book is definitely on my top favorite list for 2020!

The new girl doesn’t belong here.

So why can’t I stop thinking about her?

The daughter of the headmaster wants to ruin my school year before it’s even begun.

Iris Briggs gets under my skin. With her demure skirts and braided hair, she flits around

the periphery until she runs right into me, hot coffee soaking me as she looks up with

wide, innocent eyes.

We start off scalding.

In the library, we reach lava levels.

And then in the city? She burns me to the ground.

I’m Keaton Constantine. My duty is to my family. At least, it was until I started

unbraiding the good girl and realizing there’s more to life than duty.

REVIEW:

"What else do you want?" I only had one answer, and it was the same one from yesterday. "Everything." -Keaton and Iris
Soooo, I am torn how to rate and feel about this book. You see, there were times I DID enjoy it and was able to get immersed in the story and characters, but I always got the sense that I've read something like it before. While reading, I COULD understand where the author was going with the storyline and the generally direction she wanted everything to go. Again, that deja vu feeling. I got the connection she wanted me to feel between these two characters. Because there was a connection deep down. They had relatively similar situations in life and were able to find hope, love, and understanding in each other, immediately. They were ultimately reflections of each others circumstances and hopes. Both seeking love and validation from SOMEONE (because they weren't getting it elsewhere) and they were able to find those things in each other. They were able to look deeper than the personas that they themselves showed the public and were able to SEE each other for who they were/who they ultimately wanted to be. They were able to be themselves with each other. Like I said, I GOT that. I understood the objective of the storyline, but at the end of the day, I didn't FEEL it. I didn't feel that organic chemistry that Becker Gray was trying to convey. It was all just so abrupt...their immediate connection. There was very little lead up to that COMBUSTION between them. And I NEEDED that. I. NEEDED. THAT. to love this book. That's one thing that enemy to lover type storylines can excel at, is the build up factor and ultimately the explosive moment when they come together for the first time and times thereafter. But again, that was not given to me in this book (although there was TONS of sex in this book. Like almost too much for two 18 year olds in high school). I was anticipating, due to the blurb and early reviews, that I was gonna get tons of sexual chemistry, tons of push and pull moments where they try to resist the undeniable pull to each other (even though they "hate" each other) and also an alpha male who is a slight a**hole to top it all off, but again, I didn't really get any of those things. Keaton is actually really very sweet (I adored him) and I don't understand how ANY reader could think he's an a**hole, besides that ONE time in the book towards the end. Honestly, I don't even understand why IRIS hates him at first. That hate was genuine or understandable. The insta-hate never really made sense to me while I was reading and it still doesn't. The only one that made sense to have an insta-hate was Keaton and even that was a bit forced. In the end, it was all too insta-hate, insta-lust, insta-love for me. There's no obvious reason for any of those feelings. The feelings just developed out of thin air, like magic *poof*

Then the fact that the story sorta read like a cliff notes version. Like the author wrote each chapter individually on a index card and then threw them together without checking to make sure they flowed well together. The chapters seemed to move a rapid pace as I was reading and gave it a rushed feel. And then the plot, it was as if the author wanted to give us little tidbits of the backstory without giving too much information. To set up intrigue, maybe? I wasn't intrigued though and those mentioned things were just forgotten in my mind and/or overlooked. For example: the boys were a part of a group called the "Hellfire Club". I can not tell you what, where, when or who the group is. I can't tell you ANYTHING about the group other than the name and they are a part of it and Keaton didn't like the name. Is it a secret society type thing? Is it a fraternity? Is it a family secret group thing? No idea. Couldn't tell you. And the one big intrigue in the background, we have this mystery about his father potentially being murdered by some other family (Morellis), whom are mentioned like 3 times and only in regards to them being an obvious enemy of Keaton's family, but again, I know nothing else. It just all seemed like the author had a bunch of ideas for the plot and peppered them into the story without elaborating on them. Even in the end, those things all just seemed to be forgotten when Iris and Keaton are living HEA (at 18). What happened to his father being murdered? What about the Hellfire Club?

Honestly, the entire time I was reading this book, it felt like I've already read something like it before. Nothing felt new or unique about it. Good girl + Bad Boy = Love....been there, read that. There was very little angst. Very little character or plot development. And very like intrigue layered within the background of the story. Surface writing. This was strictly a quick and sexy high schoolish romance about two lonely characters that found love and got their HEA. If the author would've built up the back story a little more and added to the plot to increase the intrigue, this novel could've been really good. It all just fell together too seamlessly and wrapped up too easily. I needed more than insta everything. I needed the characters to actually have to work for something, but instead it all just fell into place for them quite easily. Insta-hate, insta-lust, insta-love, insta-HEA.

I wish this book could've lived up to that cover design because DAMN, that is a F.I.N.E. Keaton. And I do wish I could say that I loved this book and was intrigued about the next books, but I can't. I didn't get enough with this book to set me up for the next characters stories and most likely won't continue this series.

REVIEW:
"More simply put, then: you'll never totally forget him or replace him, you can't and won't and shouldn't. He's dead, and nothing is going to change that. You have a life to live, and only you can choose what to do with it"

This was a story about moving on. Learning to live again after the death of your one true love. Your husband. Your wife. That was the point of this story and Jasinda sort of got that message across to me, the reader, by THE END of the book, I got the fact that one should be able to move on after losing someone they love, but that doesn't mean they have to forget what they had and what they meant to them, but that's about all I got from this story unfortunately.

First issue, I knew right off the bat that the husband was gonna die, thanks to the synopsis. That left zero mystery and decreased the emotional impact quite honestly. So because of having that knowledge going into the story, I didn't allow myself to build a connection between those characters and their relationship because I knew it'd be severed at some point or would be severed upon starting the book. And even if I wanted to allow myself that connection, the writing itself hindered that ability. The rhythm of the story was one steady beat....rushed and surface. Many passages would basically read like: I drove up the driveway. I opened the garage door. I parked the car. I shut the garage door. I got out of my car. I went in the house. I set my keys down. I hung up my coat. You get the point...very rhythmic. Very step by step. Very surface. There was also a lot of "silent" moments. A lot of interactions between the characters, that the author said: There's as much silence as there is talk. as if there was nothing to add to the depth of the story or character. I needed more of those inner thoughts of the characters to really connect with them, but I wasn't able to do that with this book. Also, the predictability of this story left little to the imagination and angst level.

Second issue, this story was told in several POVs and the reader NEVER knew who's POV they were reading because they were never told. The reader has to decipher WHOM was talking after reading a couple sentences in each chapter. It was all very frustrating and took me out of the story.

Thirdly, editing issues. I rarely let arcs with grammatical errors bother me, but this one needed to go through another round of editing. I could not overlook them because they eventually felt like a "Chinese torture" tactic on top of my first issues I was struggling with. These errors further pulled me away from the story and further frustrated me. Then there was a plot error. At 28% it was stated that both her and her deceased husband's parents were dead, but then at 85%, it was stated that her mother was still alive and she still visited her from time to time. So which was it? Is she dead or alive? With more editing, this could've been caught, I'm sure. Then there were several times that the author was overly detailed about inanimate objects. TOO detailed. This lead me to start skimming some parts, so I could get to the meat of the story. Maybe this was a word count tactic? Who knows. All I know is I don't care to know about what type of fixtures are on the cabinets in the kitchen.

Lastly, the characters. Nathan's character development seemed forced. Like the author kept throwing random hardships onto his backstory for complexity, but it didn't work. It didn't make him seem more complex, it just felt wrong to give him those added layers when he was better without them IMO. Then Nadia, IMO she didn't do much growth until the very last minute, it was miniscule and abrupt. She was a very stagnant character throughout the story, which to a degree makes sense because she lost the love of her life, but the author could've given her more depth.

He's loving me from beyond the grave. He was telling me how much he loved me--he has been, through this whole thing. The cabin is his love letter to me. Each item was his voice and his hands, caressing me. Reminding me that he loved me that I was his and he was mine and he knows me. But the cabin was also him telling me that I still have to remember to live. That I have to go on without him. That I can go on without him. He chose Nathan for me. God, only Adrian could do that. Would do that.

I tried to like this book. I really T R I E D. I literally forced myself to finish it even though I no longer felt a connection with ANY of it. I was skimming over the over the top details and only reading the dialogue by the end. Honestly, I would've been happy if Nadia ended up alone at the end. That she would've been able to find happiness and peace on her own, instead of her dead husband orchestrating the whole thing between her and Nathan. I didn't feel their relationship was authentic, especially with the fact that 95% of the book was more about her and her husband and her pain after losing him. Nathan and hers "relationship" (and I put that in quotations because it was like 3 chapters of the book), was rushed, like most of the timeline in this story (weeks/months would just go by, so we didn't get to see their connection grow), and as a result their connection didn't feel organic to me.

This story had a slight PS I LOVE YOU vibe to it with how her deceased husband wrote a book and planned out things for her after he was gone, but even that comparison is far fetched at best. The concept was there, but the execution was lacking. This story had SO MUCH potential. It just didn't pack the emotional impact it should've. I have read one other book with a similar storyline that the author brought me what I expected and it is one of my favorite books. I was hoping for THAT in this book. I was truly looking forward to the emotional upheaval that the blurb implies this book would be but alas it was lackluster for me. I'm not a totally cold-hearted human being, I DID feel emotions while reading this. I DID cry during the earlier moments with her and her husband and I DID cry when he eventually died. I am human after all. Those moments were raw and real and very sad and Jasinda conveyed that pain and loss, but those were the only moments throughout that really hit me in the feels and I was expected MANY MORE moments that just those couple. Unfortunately, the best part about this book, for me, was the cover, which is stunning and book shelf worthy.
