REVIEW: ROOKE by Callie Hart

Purchase Link

SYNOPSIS:
Watchmaker. Car thief. Heartbreaker extraordinaire.

Rooke Blackheath has spent enough time in juvie to know that he really doesn’t want to go to jail. The food sucks, the clothes itch, and there are absolutely no women in sight. Well…none he wants to fuck, anyway.

He should probably stop boosting cars, but the money is stellar and the high is out of this world. And why should he turn his back on something that sets his soul on fire anyway?

The answer to that question comes in an unexpected form: a petite five-foot-three firecracker named Sasha who refuses to give him the time of day no matter how thick he lays on the charm.

Rooke’s not easily deterred, though. Just like the watches he builds from scratch, Rooke knows all too well how women tick. Women are a game to him. A game he always wins.

Sasha doesn’t stand a chance.

***

Sasha Cross’s life has been permanently derailed since her son died five years ago. You wouldn’t know it to look at her, of course. She has a great job, a beautiful house, and caring friends. Every week, she hosts a book club featuring the sexiest, most romantic stories on the planet, and every week she falls for a new fictional knight in shining armor.

Fictional men are perfect, though. They don’t hurt you. They don’t break your heart. They don’t cheat on you after your child dies, and they rarely ever leave the toilet seat up.

When Rooke Blackheath shows up at Sasha's workplace, it’s clear he’s nothing like the men who grace the pages of Sasha's favorite books. Dangerous, arrogant, sharp-tongued and sarcastic, Rooke’s not the kind of guy she needs in her life. Not to mention the fact that he’s eleven years her junior.

They don’t live in different worlds. As far as Sasha is concerned, Rooke lives in a different galaxy altogether. She’d like to keep it that way, but fate appears to have other plans.

When Cinderella lost her shoe, Prince Charming showed up at her door.

When Sasha Cross loses her book, an entirely different kind of rogue comes a-knocking.

REVIEW:

Sasha Connor is broken and lonely living out her life through the romance novels she reads in her book club. After losing her seven year old son 5 years ago in a tragic accident, she has lived her days out in solitude only allowing certain people into her life. She goes about her days as normal as possible. Eat, sleep, work, repeat, but the ever present pain of losing a loved one and consequently, losing another loved one as a result of that first loss, makes life lackluster and on top of that, being a divorcee leaves her feeling damaged and irreparable.

On yet another, normal day at work, she unexpectedly, bumps into her own “real life book boyfriend”. But he is not quite who she thought she’d imagine as BBF material. He’s arrogant, smart mouthed and egotistical and he pushes ALL her buttons. She refuses to give him the time of day, first of all because he is her co-workers grandson (yes, grandson) and secondly, he is clearly younger than her (11 years to be precise), but he proves to be stubborn, persistent and unwilling to take no for an answer. So she agrees to ONE date. But all it takes is one night with him and he opens up a whole new world to her, which turns out to be both exhilarating and dangerous. She finds it impossible to resist the high she gets from being with him. It’s as if she’s living out her very own romance novel…novel worthy s*x, illegal activities, and all! Even in the short amount of time they’ve known each other, they know they have this underlying connection. “I’m attracted to the dark ache in her soul, because it’s something I can understand. Something that feels real to me.” –Rooke.  And for Sasha, Rooke chases all her demons away and the first time in nearly five years. He makes her feel like she has a reason to live. “I wasn’t floundering in a deep well of pain, scratching at the walls, trying to hold onto to something, to keep myself afloat. Rooke took all of that away. I never would have thought that possible, but it was.” –Sasha. But just like in her romance novels, there’s always a plot twist. Rooke’s world of boosting cars and his juvie past prove to bring disastrous consequences. Now, Sasha finds herself wrapped up in his lifestyle and she might not come out alive.

What happens when their two lives collide? Can love prove to be enough to handle Rooke’s precarious lifestyle?

Callie Hart makes the unlikelihood of a couple with such an age gap (almost 11 years) believable and beautiful. Age really doesn’t play a factor in Rooke and Sasha’s relationship because they are true soulmates and it’s obvious from their first meeting. “The love between us is fire and ice. It’s loss, and it’s redemption. It’s pain and it’s comfort. It is everything.” –Sasha. I hope Callie finds these characters voices again and gives us more of their story because I felt as if there was more to tell. More love to grow between them. They fell hard and fast, but after what they endured together throughout the novel, proved that their love will stand the test of time, so it would be wonderful to see that. The only reasons I am giving it 4 stars, is I was hoping for a little more detailed character description throughout the novel for Rooke and Sasha. I still feel like some of Rooke’s past is a bit of a mystery to the readers. He was a portrayed as such a straight-forward guy, but still held some details in hiding. And as far as Sasha, we didn’t get much detail about her and Andrew’s divorce other than the fact that he cheated. There was hinting at their fallout, but it was superficial detailing. I would’ve liked just a little more thorough explanation as to how they ended because Andrew is ultimately the reason she doesn’t seek out other men and is lost to the men in the novels she reads. And then the ending seemed a little rushed. Everything fell in to place quite quickly, like in 3 chapters. But Callie did do a great job of not giving away the major twists before the ending of the book, so I applaud her for that! I personally didn’t suspect it. All in all, the intrigue was there from the beginning of the book. From the unique storyline, to the unique characters, this novel kept me wondering what would happen next. Rooke is most definitely swoon worthy and is the perfect man to pull Sasha from the depths of her suffering.

4 “feel and seen” stars

Baseball has never been sexier in an all-new novel by New York Times Bestselling Author, K. Bromberg.

Easton Wylder is baseball royalty. The game is his life. His passion. His everything.

So, when an injury threatens to end Easton’s season early, the team calls in renowned physical therapist, Doc Dalton, to oversee his recovery. Except it’s not Doc who greets Easton for his first session, but rather, his daughter, Scout. She may be feisty, athletic, defiant, and gorgeous, but Easton is left questioning whether she has what it takes to help him.

Scout Dalton’s out to prove a female can handle the pressure of running the physical therapy regimen of an MLB club. And that proof comes in the form of getting phenom Easton Wylder back on the field. But getting him healthy means being hands-on.

And with a man as irresistible as Easton, being hands-on can only lead to one thing, trouble. Because the more she touches him, the more she wants him, and she can’t want him. Not when it’s her job to maintain the club’s best interest, in regards to whether he’s ready to play.

But when sparks fly and fine lines are crossed, can they withstand the heat, or is one of them bound to get burned?

REVIEW: COLE by Tijan

SYNOPSIS
I shouldn’t have remembered him.
He was just a guy who walked through a restaurant. I didn't know his name. We never made eye contact. There was no connection between us at all.
But I could feel him.
The tingle down my spine. The command in his presence. The snap of tension in the air around him. That was the first time I saw him, and I was captivated.
The second time was different.
He was in the mysterious back elevator of my apartment building. Our eyes met for a fleeting second before the doors closed, and I was staggered. My breath was robbed. My senses on high alert. My body hummed.
That was just the beginning.
He was the leader of the mafia. I was about to fall in love with him, and his name…

REVIEW:

I want to start by saying this is only my second novel by Tijan and after devouring it, I WILL be reading the other books that connect to this novel asap! (CARTER REED 1 & 2). We get a smidgen of Carter Reed’s character in COLE and I, for one, was completely mesmerized by his cold demeanor and protectiveness. If he was this protective over Cole, then I can’t imagine how protective he is of his woman. But enough of that, I want to get to the important topic here….Cole himself. *fans self* Tijan brought to the literary pages the epitome of the perfect mysterious man possible and I am an ABSOULUTE sucker for enigmatic male characters in books! Once that mysterious element is spun in the story, I find myself wanting to scrutinize the character and figure out who they are, just like the heroine. I became Addison while reading this book. I put myself in her shoes and tried to envision and feel what she was feeling from page one. I literally was crying (yes, crying) within the first chapter (that never happens!) And from that point on, Tijan had me tethered, in a sense, to Addison and it was a complete bond the rest of the book.
COLE was almost entirely told from Addison’s POV, which I LOVED. That kept Cole even more of a mystery to the readers. In the beginning Cole was described as this strong, authoritative, confident, elusive, alpha male with an aura of danger around him, which Tijan translated to the pages masterfully. And then as the novel progressed, we saw a more kind, considerate and tender Cole. #swoonworthy Again, written perfectly! We got to see the progression both him and Addison had from the beginning of the book, to the end. Addison was breaking down his walls and shining some light into darkness. But the mystery remained…“Who is Cole?”

“My life I can’t talk to you about, but this—you coming to me—is like a breath of oxygen. I can breathe again.” He dropped his mouth to my shoulder. “Something pure among so much tainted.” –Cole.

The unraveling of secrets and the connections between Addison’s family and Cole’s brought a whole lot of thrill and excitement to the story, not to mention the insta-lust between them. The unknown element and suspense (and the heavy dose of hunger *wink*) throughout the book builds and has you flipping the page (or tapping your screen) at an increasing rate to get to the answers. Right when you think you know the answers, there’s another twist that keeps you guessing! And in between all the mystery, we get a love story. *throwing confetti*. The desire and the connection between these two characters was lip-biting worthy. *fans self*. It was obvious right from the beginning that these two were going to be electric together and they most definitely were.

Cole had woken me up, and now I was restless. Things had been gray before, but the world was in color now. I wanted things to be in bright lights, neon like the club. I didn’t want everything to be dimmed anymore.” –Addison.

I am not going to write a summary for COLE because I feel even the TINEIST amount of details can ruin the story for you. The element of mystery is how this book is supposed to be read and I want to keep it that way. I hope that my review persuades you to give COLE a chance, I know I am SO happy I did!

COLE is considered a standalone, but as I mentioned above, it is a spinoff of the CARTER REED novels. I believe Cole is introduced in CARTER REED 2. I hope if you read COLE and you loved it, you would want to read those two books as well…I know I do!

5+ stars!

About the Author:

I didn't begin writing until after undergraduate college. There'd been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can't blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I'm hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

BLURB:
Welcome to Whynot, North Carolina, population 3,872. It has one stoplight, one bar, and the one-and-only Trixie Mancinkus.

Eleven years ago, Trixie graduated Harvard Law, turned down a job offer from one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, and headed home to Whynot to open her own firm. Not only did she leave behind the big city, but she also left her boyfriend of three years. And just so we’re clear… that would be me.

So what am I doing in Whynot at this very moment? It seems Trixie needs help with a legal case and for some insane reason, she called on me for assistance. I’ve been in town for five minutes, and I’m every bit as out of place as I feel. Trixie is all sweet, southern curves to my tailored suits and high-priced haircuts. It’s a culture clash of north versus south and about the only thing we have in common is our physical attraction to each other.

But I have a new motto since coming to Why not: When life hands you lemons, all you need is a little sex and sweet tea to make things better.

SYNOPSIS:

Ryder Rodgers had a plan.

He was going to stride into the conference room, do the required song and dance over the next five days, and win the biggest contract of his career. But when he walked in and heard the voice of one of his competitors, all his plans were shot to hell.

Harper Denton. She was always on top. In college. First in their class. Always using every advantage to edge him out to win the coveted positions. The only one who could beat him. His academic rival. More like a constant thorn in his side. And his ego’s.

When he heard her voice, he was brought back to years before. To the bitter taste of being second best. But the woman who meets his gaze is nothing like the drab wallflower he used to know. Hell no. She was all woman now: curves, confidence, and staggering sex appeal. And no doubt, still brilliant.

The fact that she’s gorgeous and bright won’t distract him. This time, Ryder’s determined to be the one on top. But not if Harper can help it.

REVIEW

Imagine walking into a conference room with one goal…beating out everyone else. Winning the coveted secret contract. Being the only woman in the room to come out on top. Harper Denton is a woman in the male dominated world of construction management. She’s been away from the business for two years now and no one know she has returned. She is determined to prove to everyone (especially the industry that has let her down) that she is still very much the no-nonsense, ball busting businesswoman that she was before.  “…winning this bid is undeniable my number one priority. The only want I’ll allow myself to have. Leaving without winning the contract is not an option.” –Harper. But all that competitiveness, strategy and fire is fueled when Harper realizes that one of her competitors for this contract is none other than her college rival, who happens to also have been her supporter and longtime crush, Ryder Rodger. They are both vying for the same multimillion dollar contract. “This bid just became so much more than numbers.” –Harper. But Harper’s beat Ryder before and she will do it again. Who cares if Ryder has transformed into the mythical guy that pushes all of her buttons…both lust and irritation buttons. Beard, tats, muscles and brains. But nonetheless, she is determined to stay focused on the end game…winning the bid. She has more to lose than just the contract, she has staked her job on this win. But when Ryder’s usual sarcastic demeanor isn’t there and is replaced with something else…want…need…desire, she finds herself slipping. “This is the man I used to want, and yet now I understand that the want I knew before as a coed was nothing compared to the desire I can acknowledge and crave for as an adult.” Ryder has reignited that want inside her and it’s impossible to deny. The s*xual chemistry that was started 13 years ago has just been set ablaze and is rapidly reaching boiling point. But being stuck in a boardroom for five days together shouldn’t be a problem. She isn’t called “Ice Queen” for nothing. But with thoughts of their unfinished encounter from 13 years ago on a constant replay now that they are in such close quarters, both Ryder and Harper are unable to deny the pull they have toward each other. “I’m not doing this again. Not going to let her run away from me because she’s too scared to admit what she wants.” –Ryder.

Can 13 years of lust be contained?

This longstanding rivalry between Harper and Ryder was tangible and gripping from page one! ABSOULTELY COMBUSTIBLE! The ever present tension between them – s*xual and competitive—was ON POINT! And the forbidden/second chance aspect was seamlessly executed. Kristy Bromberg’s ability to paint such a clear history and then convey such intensity between these two characters AND hook the reader in such short amount of time, is a true testament to her storytelling and writing abilities. I could not get enough of Ryder and Harper’s competitive spirits and their lust driven encounters. They not only dominated the boardroom, but my thoughts as well. It was exciting to read about their restraint being tested and how they handled it throughout the novel.
I beginning to learn that I have a love/hate relationship with novellas. I love them because then I get the chance to read about a secondary character that I might not have otherwise been able to read. But I hate them, because they are TOO darn short! And SWEET RIVALRY was no different…I was left satisfied, but yet craving more, which is a kudos to Kristy Bromberg! I want more of Ryder and Harper’s banter and encounters! And another kudos to Kristy, I now have a particular fondness for bearded and tatted men *wink*. Ryder was everything I imagined he would be and then some! He was the perfect contradiction: refined business man outside the suit, but tatted bad boy inside the suit. *fans self* And Harper was his perfect match in every way! “I want to be met match for match. That’s what I find sexy, Harper.” –Ryder. She sure brought her A-game and made him fight until the very end!

#BeardBurnIsReal
#ItMightGetALittleDirty

This was a deliciously sexy novella that left me breathless and craving more!

About the Author:

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.
She’s a mixture of most of her female characters: sassy, intelligent, stubborn, reserved, outgoing, driven, emotional, strong, and wears her heart on her sleeve. All of which she displays daily with her husband and three children where they live in Southern California.
On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat, and Down Shift), and a novella (UnRaveled). She is currently finishing up Sweet Cheeks a standalone novel out November 14th.

Her plans for 2017 include a sports romance duet (2 books: The Player, The Catch) and the Everyday Heroes series (3 books: Cuffed, Combust, and Cockpit). She’s also writing a novella for the 1,001 Dark Night series that will be out in February 2017.

SYNOPSIS
I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance."
I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want.
Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.
I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.
At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.
I shouldn’t want her.
But I do.
I should leave her alone.
But I won’t.

REVIEW:
PUCKED OFF is a spinoff of the PUCKED series and is considered a standalone. I, personally have not completed the other books in the series and I felt like I didn’t have gaps in the story. I didn’t feel like I was missing important details because I didn’t finish the other novels in the series. Helena Hunting did a phenomenal job of filling in possible new readers and reminding previous readers of the events leading up to this novel. PUCKED OFF revolves around Lance “Romance” Romero, whom was introduced in a previous book in the series and a new female, whom is supposed to be kept a secret until you read the book.

Lance Romero is haunted by his past and he feels he has no way of escaping it. The one woman (Tash, whom we met in the previous novels) he entrusted his secrets to, has betrayed him in more ways than one and continues to manipulate and hurt him every chance she gets. “But I’m weak for Tash. I don’t know how to say no to her, even though she’s bad for me.” –Lance. Every time, she reels him, just to crush him and he’s dumb enough to keep coming back, but enough is enough. This is the last time. “I’m so done with being used.” –Lance. He’s trying to sever the tie to her, but he needs an outlet for all the chaos in his head because now more than ever, he can’t escape those demons lurking in his thoughts. He hits the ice harder, picks more fights, and ends up in the penalty box more and more. But all the injuries are taking a toll on his body and messing up his game. Now his coach demands he see a massage therapist to help fix him and bring him back to top playing condition. The only issue is he loathes being touched. He can handle taking the hits on the ice, but someone actually touching him, especially a female, makes him lose his mind. Growing up, he was conditioned to associate physical contact with pain and he avoids it all costs, but when he is given the ultimatum of “go get a massage or get benched”, he has no other choice. His expectations have him preparing for the worst, but when he arrives at his appointment he finds his ultimate “wet dream” as his massage therapist. "…she’s a natural redhead, and I have a serious weakness for them.” –Lance. He finds his reaction to her bewildering, especially when she actually massages him. His conditioned response and usual sensation he associates with physical contact is absent when she puts her hands on him. “Instead of feeling like there are bugs crawling under and over my skin, all I feel is warm. Warm hands. Warm.” –Lance. For the first time in his adult life, he isn’t repelled by this kind of touch and because of that, he is determined to find a way to keep her as his massage therapist, but it proves harder and harder to keep it professional when he is also very physically attracted to her. But as things heat up between Lance and his massage therapist, his past comes back to haunt him. Tash is relentless in her mind games and is determined to have him back, even if that ruins his only chance at happiness. He has to figure out a way to completely dissolve whatever it is they had going on and remove Tash from his life, otherwise he has no chance with this new woman in his future. She helps ground him and calms the chaos in his mind and he NEEDS her, more than anything. But his own personal insecurities have him uncertain about their possible future and that limits his ability to fully let her in. Those self-doubts lead to insecurities in her as well, and this leads to mixed messages and hesitations, when all they need to do is trust each other and open up to one another.

This was a perfect combination of sexy and sweet, with the right amount of comical relief and just enough angst to keep me reading way past my bedtime. This story proves that your past does not dictate who you become in life…YOU do. Your CHOICES do. Lance proved that you can overcome your past. He is this broken boy in a man’s body and my heart absolutely melting and broke for him throughout PUCKED OFF. His efforts at “deserving” this new woman in his life were heartbreaking and #swoonworthy at the same time. The dark emptiness he felt was brightened by her light. “…she’s the light I needed to find my way out of the dark spaces in my head.” –Lance. She became the reasons for him to heal and cut out the toxic things in his life and to help him realize that your past will always be there, because it’s part of your story, but it doesn’t need to be your future.

“Loving this man isn’t going to be easy, but I still want to try.” –the new woman
I’ll be completely honest, I tried my hardest to savor this novel for as long as I could, but in the end, I completely devoured it! I LOVED every minute of it and I would highly recommend it! I believe if you’ve enjoyed any of Helena’s novels, then you’ll find pure bliss with this one. Lance is definitely up there with Randy (from PUCKED OVER and PUCKED UNDER) as a top fav of mine in the PUCKED series.  I haven’t heard any specific details on more novels happening in this series, but there are still some teammates that could get novels. I’m holding out hope that Helena finds their voices and gives us their stories one day.

SYNOPSIS
THE PRINCE OF PARK AVENUE FINALLY MEETS HIS MATCH IN A FEISTY MANHATTAN PRINCESS.
I’ve made every one of my billions of dollars myself—I’m calculating, astute and the best at what I do. It takes drive and dedication to build what I have. And it leaves no time for love or girlfriends or relationships.
But don’t get me wrong, I’m not a monk.
I understand the attention and focus it takes to seduce a beautiful woman. They’re the same skills I use to close business deals. But one night is where it begins and ends. I’m not the guy who sends flowers. I’m not the guy who calls the next day.
Or so I thought before an impatient, smart-talking, beyond beautiful heiress bursts into my world.
When Grace Astor rolls her eyes at me—I want to hold her against me and show her what she’s been missing.
When she makes a joke at my expense—I want to silence her sassy mouth with my tongue.
And when she leaves straight after we f*ck with barely a goodbye—it makes me want to pin her down and remind her of the three orgasms she just had.
She might be a princess but I’m going to show her who rules in this Park Avenue bedroom.

REVIEW
Sam Shaw has lived a life of limited means, thanks to his heartbreaking past. At the age of twelve, he became an orphan and had no living relatives. He knows true loss and because of that, he has shut off his ability to love anyone, for fear of losing them. He has only one true friend, Angie, whom he met at his new school after being placed in the boys’ home. “She was in a girls’ home nearby and must have recognized a fellow orphan. We’d been best friends ever since.” But even Angie was kept at a safe distance. “Growing up as I did had forced me to detach from others. To not care about holes in my soul that would never be filled. I’d taught myself to tune into people—to read them, but not comfort or protect.” –Sam. For many years he had nothing, so he was determined to acquire a successful career in Manhattan and buy stable investments to make him financial set for life. In his experience, he’s learned that one has to be careful what they reveal to others, so he remained aloof and observant. Even though he wasn’t truly one of the “Manhattan elite”, he knew how to play their games. He used his observational knowledge to make himself powerful and became someone that belonged among them, a “Park Avenue Prince”. Now, a proud owner of an apartment on Park Avenue, he’s been advised by his art director to invest in fine arts. His advisor, Nina, has him attending an exhibition at GRACE ASTORS FINE ARTS. But shortly after arriving, he finds himself more intrigued by the strong and feisty owner, Grace Astor. He studies her as if SHE is the paintings. He gets an overall impression, but looking more closely he’s determined to look deeper. He wants to look over those walls she so obviously has. So he pursues her. But after spending time with her, he learns real fast it’s impossible to stay completely detached from her. She’s working her way into his life and heart unexpectedly and that scares him immensely. He knows he can’t truly let her in because in his experience, that never ends well.

Grace Astor is hosting her debut exhibition in her fine arts gallery tonight and it needs to be successful because she’s literally put everything into the success of her gallery and it has cost her plenty. The biggest issue was the artist she is featuring on her first exhibition is that he is her ex-boyfriend, whom she single-handedly caught cheating on her four weeks ago, with her assistant, in her office. This unfortunately wasn’t the first time she’d been disappointed by a boyfriend. Her upbringing as a “Park Avenue Princess” has her slightly jaded towards men in that world, so she swung in the complete opposite direction when it came to potential boyfriends. She became a “fixer”. She found up and coming artists, musicians, writers and helped nurture their careers. The only problem with that is, all those men are too focused on building their career that they don’t truly care about her and just end up leaving her behind once they get a sniff of success. Now, on her gallery debut evening, she has to have that thrown her face…she has to spend the evening telling everyone how special her ex’s work is and try to make him an instant success because that’ll help her gallery out. It doesn’t help that a “spoiled and indulged” Wall Street man named, Sam Shaw, comes into her gallery and makes her intrigued about all the things she’s been trying to avoid her whole life. “He was everything I shouldn’t want—everything I’d spent my life rejecting…” –Grace. She tried to avoid him after he left the gallery, but his unrelenting pursuit leads to an unexpected job that. “I’d like you to be my advisor.” –Sam. Grace knows this is bad idea, her body and mind are at battle. She doubts she’ll be able to resist this pull she has toward him for long if they actually worked together. But his pursuit was intoxicating and she finds herself caving to it. “I wanted to find out what it was like to be pursued. To be under a man as big, as confident, as in control as Sam Shaw.” –Grace.

What will happen when two different worlds collide? Sam and Grace may appear to outsiders as if they are both from the same upbringing, but that is very much not true. “Could people from contrasting backgrounds really like each other?” –Sam. Can Sam finally let someone in and let go of his fear of loss? Is he willing to find his ultimate bliss?
“Had she been what I waiting for? Was she my ultimate bliss?” –Sam.
This is my first Louise Bay novel and I couldn’t have been happier with it! I LOVED every minute of Sam and Grace’s story and was left with a goofy grin at the end. They were both broken characters, but in their own unique ways. They had VERY different upbringings, but those trials and experiences brought them together in a seamless way. Sam’s upbringing shaped him into the man he is now: guarded, determined, strong, controlling. Grace’s childhood and adult experiences shaped her into the woman she is now: independent, passionate, feisty, broken but not defeated. They both had set boundaries and it was extremely fascinating to read about those boundaries being tested. “I’m not going to make it that easy for you, Grace Astor. If you want to push my boundaries, I get to peer over your Park Avenue Princess walls, too.” –Sam.  And man, did they ever push each other! I absolutely LOVED Sam’s bluntness with Grace. He’s not your typical billionaire a**hole, he’s just matter of fact and I find his pursuit and strategy particularly sexy *wink*….Grace had no chance, but to give into his tactics.

This story was about figuring out you can become whoever you want, your past doesn’t dictate your future. It was about letting go and realizing that YES you are deserving of being loved and loving. It was about not living life out of fear. That will only lead to you being alone and lonely. It was about finding love in the most unexpected and unplanned way. Fate will find a way to bring that person into your life, whether you want it or not. And most importantly, it was about “weathering the storm…together”. You can think you have all these plans set up and block out everyone in your life, so you do not lose them, but in the end, you’re not weathering the storm…you’re just sitting in the down pour…alone, with no umbrella. You can face life WITH someone and make it through the storms, together.

Louise had us experiencing right along with the characters their ups and downs. I could sense their pain and happiness while reading and because of that I felt emotionally invested in their story. She had me smiling along with the characters, swooning right along with Grace, and feeling the confusion right along with Sam. And feeling the love grow between the two. From what I understand, this is a spinoff from KING OF WALL STREET (the 2 characters from that book are in this novel), so I plan to read their story next!
“Because,” he said, tilting my chin up for a kiss, “you taught me the most important lesson in the Count’s story. ‘Happiness is like those palaces in fairytales whose fates are guarded by dragons: We must fight in order to conquer it.’He smiled down at me. “I won’t ever stop fighting again.” –Sam.
5+ "waiting & hoping" stars!
xoxo, Vivian 💋
