REVIEW: 
The minute I saw Katy Evans announce this novel, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I wanted to read it immediately! What I didn’t realize was how much I NEEDED to read it. I needed to race back into this Real world that Katy Evans has created all those years ago and RACER was the perfect way to do that. RACER was like coming home. This is considered a standalone (and can read as such), but I would honestly recommend that if you want the full giddiness that comes along with reading about previous characters then you MUST read Katy's other novels: REAL, MINE, REMY, ROGUE, RIPPED, and LEGEND…ALL those characters make a cameo in RACER and make huge Real series fans, such as myself, go completely bonkers over their appearances. To get even a glimpse of what these beloved characters’ lives look like years later is like the whip cream, sprinkles AND cherry on top of my ice cream sundae. 

Racer Tate is determined that he can step out from behind is fathers’ shadow. Being the son of one of the world’s most famous fighters, he wants to prove to both his dad and mom that he can pave his own way in life and also conquer his demons along the way. Addicted to speed and the adrenaline that comes along with racing, he has easily become a legend in illegal street racing and has made a name for himself. As an undefeated racer at the top of his game, he has the cops in his back pocket, woman in his bed and he wants for nothing. SWOON!!! I absolutely adored this novel!!! RACER was everything I had hoped for and then some! Lana and Racer’s story will have you rooting for them from the beginning! Their relationship was raw, REAL, addictive and completely consuming. They are perfect for each other and I am truly happy that Katy was able to give us their story! RACER was about family. It was about breaking down your walls and letting someone in. It was about healing. It was about learning that love is worth the risk. It was about conquering what life throws at you. I could go on and on about this, but plain and simple, it was about finding your other half, the one that will love ALL of you... “I wonder if she’ll be the one to love and get every part of me.” –Racer. Racer Tate has held a piece of my heart ever since reading his parents novels (REAL, MINE, and REMY) and now after finishing his and Lana’s story, he is further cemented in my heart. Review:

Unfortunately, there’s a mix up and the date doesn’t go as expected. Now he finds himself alone at the bar where they were all supposed to meet. Fate just so has it, there is also a beautiful brunette at the bar that catches his eye. There is instant attraction and chemistry between them and after chatting over drinks, they decide that they will have “one night” together, nothing more. But it is obvious after their “one night”, neither will be able to resist finding more time to spend together.

Stealing slivers of time together over the next couple months turns their “one night”, into several nights and early mornings* wink*.“God, you’re so much more than I ever knew I wanted.” –Malcolm. Malcolm begins to realize that Mandy might be exactly what he needed in his new start to life. But he has to convince her of that and tread lightly as to not scare her off. Mandy is consistently stuck in her worry. She is a package deal, she has to Jase to think about when it comes to the future. Over time, Mandy starts to “live in the moment” and begins to realize that maybe hoping for more isn’t such a terrible thing. Maybe one night can be forever.

This is my first “Leatha” novel (Aleatha’s lighter side) and I will say, I am pleasantly surprised by how sappy and heart felt this story was. Aleatha Romig brings emotional depth to this sweet and touching story. A “second chance at love” type of story, Malcolm and Mandy’s journey was about opening yourself up to life and chance. It was about living in the moment and letting fate take over. It was about finding your forever.

There were some plot twists in here that I predicted early on, but I’ve come to the conclusion that after reading 100s of romance novels, some of the predictability is unavoidable. I don’t think that this took away from the value of the story, just didn’t surprise me when those twists happened. Also, at times I was frustrated with Amanda’s character. She seemed to be such a strong woman and mother, but yet she couldn’t’ give Malcolm the benefit of the doubt and allow him into her life even a fraction, but at the end of the story, it all makes sense why that is how Aleatha wrote her character, it helped with plot twists and such. Amanda never promised more than “one night”, so I guess why should I expect her to give Malcolm more? Nonetheless, she frustrated me at times LOL. Malcolm was just SO sweet and patient with her that I wanted her to give him more.

All in all, I liked this book. It was a quick read that was sweet and sexy in all the right ways and will leave you happy in the end. If you have not read Aleatha Romig’s lighter side, give this one a try!

EXCERPT:

Mandy

When we finally pull apart, before I can speak or even contemplate what happened, Malcolm's blue eyes shine down on me, taking me in and reading me.

His voice rumbles through the background commotion of the bar. “You taste like sweet wine and smell like perfume and desire.”

Warmth fills my cheeks. “You taste like good beer.”

“Good? You're a beer connoisseur?”

I shrug. “Mostly, I know cheap beer.”

He lifts my chin, bringing his indigo eyes into focus. The room disappears, making those blue orbs all I can see. 

“I'm a connoisseur,” he says as his thumb gently rubs over my bruised lips. “And you, beautiful Mandy, if you were a beer, would never be a cheap one. No, you're a rich custom craft brew. I see it in your eyes, feel it in your touch, and smell it in the air. Kissing a stranger isn't something you do, is it?”

I try to move my eyes away, but Malcolm's grip of my chin is unrelenting. Meeting his gaze, I reply, “No. I won't even bore you with how long it's been since I've kissed a real man.”

His eyes sparkle. “You kiss fake men?”

“Boys. Well, only one actually.”

“You kiss boys...” And then, as if the reality of his statement hits home, he asks, “You have a son?”

My heart flutters, its speed increasing by the second. “I do, but I don't want to talk about him. Not because he isn't important for he is—he's my world—but because tonight isn't about him. It's about me.” I can't gauge Malcolm's reaction. I can only guess that he's assuming that I'm some needy woman trying to get a man to take on the responsibility of a kid who isn't his.

I reach out and splay my fingers over his chest. His heart is beating to match mine. “I don't want to talk about him,” I continue, “because he'll never know about you—I'll never tell him and never introduce you. Don't worry. I'm not after a man to rescue me. I'm perfectly content with my life as a mother. I just wanted to remember what it felt like to be a woman...for just one night.”

“I'm not anti-children—”

I shake my head. “Stop. That doesn't matter.” It’s then that I notice the filled glasses on the table and laugh. “When did the waitress come?”

Malcolm bows his head until our noses touch. He inhales deeply, his eyes closing as his hand falls to my lap. “I'd say just after you.”

More heat floods my cheeks. “I-I didn't...”

“Then we need to do something about that.” He looks again at the full glasses. “I think the drinks came while my tongue was busy getting to know your sweet mouth.” His hand splays over my thigh.

My breathing hitches. “Malcolm?”

“You said you want one night. One night doesn't end with a kiss. It begins with one.”
