REVIEW:
This is my first novel by Pam Godwin and let me tell you, I am hooked! The plot, the characters,
the sensual factor...utterly gripping!
All of it together made for a completely captivating novel from beginning to
end. And the fact that it is set in Aleatha Romig’s INFIDELTY series makes it
even more appealing! But let me say, I was drawn to this novel first of all,
because of the fact that it was within the INFIDELTY world, but while reading
it, the book became its own, the characters stories took on a life of their
own, and I was entirely enthralled in their story. Pam drew me in and I didn’t
want to leave!
Decker Gabrielli and Laynee Somerset’s story was about sacrifice,
healing and overcoming obstacles, both internal and external. They both have
pasts that they want to hide, but the problem with hiding the past is it eventually
becomes WHO you are. You cannot move forward without facing the hurdles life
has handed you. Laynee and Decker help each other see that fact with the
assistance of Infidelity. You will learn what Infidelity is when you read the
novel. I can’t give you all the secrets *wink*
Laynee Somerset is Hollywood royalty and exceedingly
gorgeous. But underneath all those designers’ gowns and flawless makeup, she’s
hiding dark secrets. Secrets that eat away at her every day. With her history
with men and her secrets, a contract relationship is the only way to keep
herself and her past protected. A man contractually obligated to her (and
Infidelity) would keep him at an arm’s length and prevent from anything deeper
happening beyond the contract. But then Infidelity sends her Decker. Decker is
everything that Laynee has specifically told Infidelity that she does not want
in a companion. He is aggressive, stubborn, alpha, and commanding. To top it
all off, he is downright gorgeous as h*ll. He’s the epitome of her Achilles
heel. She’s fallen for men like him in the past and that’s exactly why she’s in
this position. She refuses to let him into her heart because he will just end
up hurting her.
Decker has found himself jobless and nearly penniless and
after the past year he’s had, he is desperate for a break. So when he gets the
offer of a lifetime, he finds it hard to pass up. Infidelity could give him a
fresh start, repair his reputation and maybe give him enough money to start up
a new business venture. The biggest issue is, he has NO idea who he will be
paired with. He could be paired with an old lady looking for attention.
Secondly, he does NOT do monogamy. He is more about the chase and release. But
instead when he arrives to meet his companion for the next year, he is paired
with this stunning, well-known starlet. From the beginning she challenges him
at every turn and makes him chase her. “The
faster she retreats, the harder I’m going to chase.” –Decker. As he starts
breaking down her carefully constructed walls and sees the baggage on the other
side, his protective instincts kick into overdrive and his feelings deepen. But
no matter how open and willing he is, Laynee still remains out of reach and
aloof. For Decker, their companionship becomes more than the contract.
“Infidelity pulled me out of a rut, but it’s
become clear to me that success isn’t measured in dollar signs or notches in a
bedpost. Over the past few months, I’ve counted my greatest accomplishments in
the number of times I put a smile on Laynee’s face. I don’t when it happened,
but at some point, she’s become my purpose. Her happiness is my incentive.
She’s my secret to getting ahead in life.” –Decker.
Now he has to figure
out a way to show Laynee he is all in and not going anywhere. He is not there
strictly because of the contract. He has to show her that SHE is the incentive
now.
“Whatever your incentive is—“.
“You.” I shove my face in hers. “Your
smile. Your body. Rigorous, mutually-pleasurable, savage s*x. You are my
incentive.” –Decker.
Will Laynee be able to allow Decker into her heart? Will
Decker be willing to sacrifice his initial incentive for her?
Decker and Laynee are both broken characters who need to
find healing and the only way to do so was through each other. And Pam Godwin
depicted their healing as a couple (and individually) perfectly! There was so
much emotion and heart felt moments throughout the novel that it was impossible
to not feel for these characters and their struggles and root for their HEA. INCENTIVE was everything I had hoped it
would be and then some! There was emotional parts, sensual scenes, alpha
moments #swooningoverDecker and there was a deeper meaning to the overall
story. THOSE are the things I look for in a great novel and Pam Godwin hit all
those key points. Decker’s love for “the chase” was perfect because Laynee sure
made him hunt her down in the most delicious ways.
I am SO thankful for the opportunity to read and review this
arc! First of all, because I LOVED the INFIDIELTY series by Aleatha Romig and
out of all the series I have read (and that’s a lot), this one is definitely
one I would want to see become a Kindle World series. Secondly, because Pam
Godwin is an author that I have been “keeping my eye on” for some time now, but
I was hesitant because I was under the impression she has darker novels, but
after reading INCENTIVE, I feel that this was definitely the PERFECT novel to
dive into first and get a feel for her writing style.

*Note: This is a standalone and full length novel. You do
NOT have to read the INFIDELITY series by Aleatha Romig to understand this
novel. I would consider this a “spin off” of that series, with all new
characters, but character appearances from Aleatha’s INFIDELITY world. But of
course, I would HIGHLY recommend you read Aleatha’s series because it is mind-blowing
and packed full of suspense! A phenomenal series!
