Callie Hart & Lili St.Germain - HELL'S KITCHEN

Hell’s Kitchen (Hell’s Kitchen #1)
*From International Bestselling authors Callie Hart and Lili St. Germain comes a tale of two families co-existing in a melting pot of violence, murder and drugs in the seedy underbelly of New York City*

**The Hell’s Kitchen series will be available on Amazon on release day. No pre-order option.

Theo and Sal Barbieri are brothers, tasked by their Mafioso father Roberto with a very clear purpose: kidnap Kaitlin McLaughlin. The beautiful daughter of Roberto’s Irish enemy. It’s high time Kaitlin was punished for her father’s sins—not to mention, her own.
And Operation: Kidnap Kaitlin is a roaring success… until it isn’t. When Kaitlin escapes into the busy streets of New York City, it’s a race against the clock to find her before Sal and Theo become the hunted.
Zeth Mayfair has traded his life as a hitman for a quieter existence, but it isn’t long before the past catches up with him in the form of Roberto Barbieri. Will he succumb to the lure of power that Roberto is offering? Or will he retaliate by killing every last Barbieri in New York to get them off his back?
Jason Ross is running. Woken in the night by a tip that the Gypsy Brothers are coming for him, he packs a bag and gets his girlfriend the hell out of dodge. Arriving in New York City in the midst of a heatwave is one thing, but being tailed by an entire drug cartel is another.
Worlds collide in Hell’s Kitchen as secrets come to light and sins are punished. Because we might be different in the light of day, but in the darkness, we’re all connected somehow.

Hell’s Kitchen is a serial comprising three volumes: Hell’s Kitchen, Tribeca and Bleecker Street. Volume One releases on March 3rd with a limited-time sale price of 99 cents

Excerpt

“What time they due to land?” Sal asks. He loops a tie, pre-knotted and ready to go, over his head.
“Twenty minutes.” With traffic the way it is, we’ll be there in ten.

Sal tightens the tie around his neck, placing the ridiculous fucking chauffeur’s hat on his head. He tucks his hair back behind his ears. He needs to cut it, but will the bastard listen? Hell, no. He never listens to a word I say. “Are you ready?” he asks.

I take my eyes off the road, arching an eyebrow at him. Who the hell does he think he’s talking to? I’ve been doing this job longer than him, after all. I’ve never blinked. Never not been ready. He gets the point pretty damn quickly.

“All right, man, I’m sorry.”

When we arrive at the airfield, we’re directed to hangar twelve, no questions asked. Paddy McLaughlin’s own men would have arrived around now—if we hadn’t already beaten the shit out of them and handcuffed them to a pillar inside an old cardboard factory down on the wharf—so we’re expected. Kaitlin McLaughlin’s plane is delayed. I’m already bored and itching to go by the time the private jet touches down. Sal climbs out of the car and leans against the front passenger door, waiting for the prissy Irish princess and her entourage to exit the plane. When she does, we’re in luck.

Normally, Paddy doesn’t send his little girl anywhere without two personal bodyguards. Today, she’s only accompanied by one. Sal taps the hood of the car as he goes out to take her bags. I have the engine purring in anticipation as he opens the back passenger side door for her and she climbs inside.

Huge sunglasses cover her eyes. That full mouth of hers is perfectly visible in the rearview, though. “Where the fuck is Ray?” she asks. Her father may be first generation Irish, but Kaitlin was born and raised in the States—she sounds like a spoiled little Yank bitch.

“Mr. McLaughlin needed him for something else. He sent us instead.”
She slides the sunglasses down the bridge of her nose, peering at me over the car’s half-raised privacy screen. “And who are you?”
I give her a tight-lipped smile, doing my best to keep my tongue in my head. We need the bodyguard to get in the car, and then we’re golden. Until then, I’m Jerry, the friendly town car driver. “Jerry. My buddy there, that’s Gareth. We’re new.”

“I can see that.” She makes a low, humming sound at the back of her throat. She sounds like she approves. Sorry, sweetheart. I don’t touch crazy pussy. But I will introduce you to my old man, all the same. He just can’t wait to fucking meet you.

The door behind me opens and I feel the car dip as someone gets in—I didn’t notice before, but the lone bodyguard with Kaitlin is a woman. Must be the chick Roberto was talking about. I get a good look at her in the rearview and find myself taking a second one for good measure. She’s blisteringly hot. Maybe in her mid-twenties? Long dark hair, tied back into a braid. High cheekbones. A mouth to rival Kaitlin’s. Her tits strain against her tight black shirt as she twists to put on her seatbelt. You can tell she works out; her clothes fit her far too well for her not to know she looks good in them, too.

Just like Kaitlin, she asks, “Where’s Ray?”

“Busy doing something for Daddy,” Kaitlin informs her, which saves me from spinning the lie again.
“Okay. Straight to the bar, then.” The body guard’s head doesn’t even lift, but she’s a professional. She assesses me in the mirror just as I’ve assessed her. I pretend not to notice as Sal folds himself into the passenger seat.

“Of course.” I press the button for the privacy screen, raising it the rest of the way, blocking out all sound from the back of the car. Sal turns and gives me one of his wicked, crazy-ass grins. He’s enjoying this already. “All right, then, big brother. Let’s do this.” He leans forward and hits a button on the dash—and every single door on the town car automatically locks. “No backing out now.”

I burn out of the hangar to the sounds of muffled thuds from the back of the car. The bodyguard’s not stupid. She’s heard the doors locking and knows something isn’t right. “Motherfucker! Open this up right now!”

Normally there’s an intercom in these cars, but this one’s different. Sal and I smashed the shit out of this car’s intercom with two lump hammers and ripped out the wiring. We also lined the roof with lead. The girls in the back aren’t striking up a conversation with us any time soon. And they aren’t making any phone calls to dear old Papa McLaughlin, either.

As I head back toward the city, the shouting from the back gets louder. It’s accompanied by the dull thudding of feet trying to smash out the privacy screen. Sal raps his knuckles against the glass, grinning again. “Bitch sounds crazy back there. I don’t think she likes the modifications we’ve made.”
I allow myself a small smile as we hit the George Washington Bridge, heading back toward North Manhattan. So far Operation: Kidnap Kaitlin has been a roaring success. Sal pulls out his cell and starts tapping into it with quick fingers. “Telling the old man we’re on our way?”

He nods. “Bastard better give us credit where credit’s due. He’s probably still organising his own fucking birthday party. Meanwhile, we have just successfully taken our mark hostage. We’re on the homeward stretch.”

The fucking homeward stretch.

The thing about saying you’re on the homeward stretch is that often it’s like waving a red flag at a bull. Fate must hear that phrase and decide to fuck over the poor schmuck who was dumb enough to utter it every single fucking time. It’s only seconds after Sal’s parted with those words that the electric window behind me—the bodyguard’s side window—shatters. We knew the bodyguard would be armed, but we didn’t expect anyone to be shooting out the damn side windows. An eruption of fragmented diamonds explodes sideways, spraying a bright yellow smart car with a million shards of glass. The sound of the firing gun is almost deafening.

“What the fuck?”

The smart car veers sideways, smashing into us; I press my foot to the floor, grinding my teeth at the sound of screeching metal and more hammering from the back as I swerve through the traffic. Sal twists in his seat, pulling his gun and pressing it to the glass of the privacy screen. His finger’s on the trigger. “She’s going fucking crazy. I’m gonna shoot the bitch.”

About the Authors

Callie Hart
Callie pic.jpg
Callie has experienced many changes throughout her life, and gone through many ups and downs that have all worked towards shaping and molding her into the person she is today: fun loving, active, social, and hard working. The only thing that has remained a constant throughout her life is writing. Creating characters who will tear your conscience in two is a favorite pastime of Callie’s. There are few real saints and sinners in her books; more often, the denizens of her stories are all very human. Broken, flawed, and always with the potential for redemption.
Despite the subject matter being markedly hot and heavy in comparison to the stories she wrote in elementary school, there will always be an element of fairytale to her work.

50 Shades of Opinions

Dear Fellow Mother,

Today I found your letter to your children regarding the "drivel" that is 50 Shades of Grey.  I challenge you to read the following with an open mind.

You say that these are the things this story is not:

It is not a love story.
It does a pretty convincing job of masquerading as one, for sure, but please believe me when I say that love doesn’t even have a cameo role in this plot.
It is also not a romantic fairytale with a harmless bit of naughtiness sprinkled on top.

After reading your viewpoints, I pose this question to you :

Have you read these books?

No?  Well, feel free to consider my perception as I have done yours.

You're correct.  This is not a love story.  It is so much more than that, as those of us who have read and re-read will be able to tell you.  In a world that has been filled with fairy tale princes and women's oppression, this book gave us a refreshing spin on the traditional romance.  This story does not rely on wooing and the romantic submission of a man who fell hard in love at first sight.  This series is more about growth, understanding, healing, and compromise - the real things that make a love story worth living rather than just reading.

To prove my point, a brief synopsis of the book.  Christian Grey was born to a crack addict and tortured for the first four years of his life.  While he wasn't able to fully remember this time, the scars alone were enough to torment him later in life.  After being adopted by the Greys, his demons caught up to him and he began to act out in his formative years.  This is when his sexual proclivities are learned, through yet another abusive situation.  Unfortunately, a predator wearing the mask of a family friend felt it was her "duty" to show him more pleasurable outlets for his primitive urges.  He became her submissive in his teens, and thus learned that sex was not limited to missionary positions and tender touches.

If you think this stuff doesn't happen, you might live in a world where the grass is blue and clouds are made of cotton candy.  Refusing to read such tragedy does not mean it doesn't exist, it means you choose to turn a blind eye to it.  I don't judge, though.  I myself prefer to avoid all news correspondence because the world is a terrible place.

Returning to my point, Christian is intrigued by Anastasia, and feels she could satisfy his dominant needs if he shows her her own submissive nature.  This is where the synopsis changes to my opinions.  Christian, in the beginning, believes that he needs the cuffs and punishment to maintain control that he often didn't have growing up.  The idea of this gives him pleasure, but I believe only because he was groomed that way by "Mrs. Robinson".  The more time he spends with Anastasia, the more he realizes that it is really NOT all about his pleasure, a concept that - let's face it - not all men (or even women) ever grasp.  The love is not there immediately, it develops through Anastasia's tenderness and struggle to see things from his perspective.  As he sees her efforts, he returns them in kind.  Both parties make efforts to please the other by bending their will.

This is what I took from this book.  Christian faced his demons and coped the only way he'd really ever been taught, and Anastasia showed him it wasn't the only way.  In my reality, the dream relationship is one where each individual is willing to bend rather than force change upon the other for their own selfish unwillingness to change.

You say you hope that your children never witness this "drivel" and that they learn the "proper" way to enjoy and appreciate sex.  I say, I hope they see this for what's it's worth, when they are old enough to view it maturely.

I'm not saying that I am going to pop the movie in the moment it's released and watch it with my 5 and 3 year old.  What I'm saying is that it is not my responsibility to shield my children from what some may view as distasteful.  It is my responsibility to open my children's minds to what others may feel and not encourage them to judge negatively.  I want them to be aware that people may think differently than them, and their imaginations may take them to different places than they would go on their own.   I would rather make it a point to teach them it's about imagination and the appreciation of human life, than allow them to believe that the words and views of others dictate their behaviors, beliefs, and morals.

Only you can control the way your children view these things.  And if you choose to not allow them to ever see this, and if you are of a mind that does not enjoy these things, I do not judge you.  You are entitled to your opinions.  But, please grant me the same courtesy.  Don't tear me down or cast me in the role of demented sycophant just because you don't see things the way I do.

Sincerely yours,

A Different Kind of Mother

THOUGHTFUL by S.C. Stephens

6 days, KK lovers!  You only have to wait 6 more days to climb into bed with the epically loveable Kellan Kyle.  Now, because I'm that kind of girl, I'm going to let you know that I GOT HIM FIRST!  Well, of course I don't hold a candle to Kiera, but I like to pretend I'm special.   And because my momma always taught me to make others feel special, too, I'm sharing with you not only my thoughts, but a few teeny tidbits shared from S.C. Stephens herself, as well as a fabulously rockin' giveaway!

In Thoughtless, Kiera told her story. Now it's time to hear from the sexy rock star who captivated us all . . .

The only place Kellan Kyle has ever felt at home is onstage. Gripping his guitar in a darkened bar, he can forget his painful past. These days his life revolves around three things: music, his bandmates, and hot hookups. Until one woman changes everything . . . Kiera is the kind of girl Kellan has no business wanting-smart, sweet, and dating his best friend. Certain he could never be worthy of her love, he hides his growing attraction . . . until Kiera's own tormented heart hints that his feelings might not be one-sided. Now, no matter the consequences, Kellan is sure of one thing-he won't let Kiera go without a fight.

I remember my first encounter with Kellan Kyle like it was yesterday.  I sympathized with Keira, though I thought some of her behavior was ridiculous.  I LOVED Kellan, and I so badly wanted Keira to wake up and smell the coffee that he made a point to prep and sweeten for her every morning.  I mean, what girl doesn't want a guy that wakes up and thinks of her before anything else?

But here's the thing : there's always two sides to the story.  And in a story where there is so much turmoil, and where the characters are desperately trying to justify their actions, they tend to demonize themselves.  Keira did exactly that.  She didn't hide that she had done wrong, but she severely romanticized a tragically difficult situation.

This is Kellan's side of the story.  And I have to say, while he admitted that he was the rear of a donkey, I had an incredibly hard time sympathizing with Keira this time around.  She didn't seem confused, she didn't seem torn.  She just seemed selfish, THOUGHTLESS, and provocative.  I was heartbroken time and time again when the two would grow close, only to be separated by Keira's desire to have her cake and eat it, too.

Kellan was not 100% without fault, though, as his story clearly describes.  With as mercurial as his moods seemed to be, what with his constant back and forth between guilt and lust, how on earth could the girl have trusted that he wanted her and only her?  Knowing his past, it was hard not to see herself as yet another conquest, a notch on his already mangled bedpost.

But what broke my heart the most was the anger in Kellan's thoughts.  I had found myself wishing for more dialogue and interaction between the two because it was just so painful inside his mind.  He was raging one moment, and wounded the next.  We already know that he felt no love growing up, and he saw what he desired in life between Keira and Denny.  He'd had no idea in the beginning that he would find exactly what he needed with her, that fate had essentially brought them together in the most effed up way.

 Kricket's Rating : 5 Chirps

I got a chance to have some burning reader questions answered by this lovely lady, and here is what she had to say :

1. What would readers be surprised to find out about you?

I’m very quiet, and I really don’t like being in the spotlight. Matt and I have a lot in common, except I can’t play an instrument to save my life.

2. What can you tell us about your Kellan and Kiera, that we won't find in the book?

The current ending to Thoughtless is not the original ending. The first ending was far more tragic, and I liked it, but didn’t love it. After the initial reviews came out and fans felt the same way, I thought of ways to change it.
*Blogger note :  I've read that original ending, and it was HEART WRENCHING!   I have a hard time reading now without thinking of how much more wrong things could have ended.  So much pain!!!

3. Why set your books in Seattle?

I know the city, so I felt comfortable writing about it.

4. If THOUGHTFUL was being made into a movie, who would you include in your dream cast?

I’ve grown to love Devin Paisley as Kellan. He definitely has the right look. I’m not sure about the others, except Denny. He’s always been Craig Horner to me.

5. Where do you find inspiration for your writing? Do you use real people/places as a foundation?

I often use real places, and that will give me ideas about what the characters could be doing there. Music is really my biggest inspiration. I love having a soundtrack in my head to go with the story.

Rebel by Callie Hart

“You think you use your brain when you’re having sex?”

Rebel’s pen freezes on the paper. He turns, then, towering over me, my face level with his belt buckle. It’s as though I can literally feel the heat rolling off his body. He’s intimidating and overwhelming, his presence a powerful force to be reckoned with.

“Oh, Sophia. I use my brain. Every time I sleep with a woman, I’m using my head to figure out what she likes. How she likes it. What I can do to have her screaming my name until her throat’s raw.”

Rebel and Sophia's story.
The first of a three part series. This novel contains a small snippet which has already been released in the Owned: An Alpha Anthology, however it is followed by a full story installment.

NOW AVAILABLE

Sophia
Sometimes, you don't mean to become another person. Sometimes the choice is made for you, and pretending is the only thing that keeps you going. When Alexis Romera is taken and her kidnappers find her fake ID in her purse, she must become Sophia in order to keep her family safe. Revealing her real identity to the man she's sold to would be easy enough, but can she trust him? Hell bent on revenging the murder of his uncle, Rebel doesn't seem all that interested in playing things safe.
In fact, nothing about the secretive, dark and brooding MC president seems safe at all.
Rebel
What do you do when the man who raised you is murdered, and the only witness is kidnapped girl who's being sold as a sex slave? You buy her, of course. As president to the most powerful motorcycle club in America, Rebel isn't lacking in power. There are strings the man can pull, and entire criminal organisations and corporate businesses alike would fall to their knees. However, along with such power comes intense interest. The DEA have their eye fixed solely on the MC...and they're just waiting for Rebel to trip up.
Getting Sophia to testify is the only way to bring the Los Oscuros cartel down. The beautiful, dark haired, dark eyed woman is belligerent and uncooperative and unlikely to bend to his will, but Rebel has a few tricks up his sleeve to make her compliant--he'll charm her until she's bending over backwards to please him.
Of course, falling for her might cause a few hiccups along the way...
